Everyone's gone home and it's Friday and I'm sat here with a bottle of beer and Blackalicious on the Hi-Fidelity Sound System.
I haven't got much to say as per usual but I wondered, are you like: starter and main, or main and dessert, or fuck it I'll go for all three? Savoury or sweet? Or the secret third option? And what're you at tonight?
(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 18:31, 89 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
Starter and main, usually.
And savoury every time. I really have to be in the mood for something sweet, and it's not often I am.

Off to the in laws for dinner tonight.
(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 18:34, Reply)
I'm the same, although I had an amazing fig, almond and pistachio tart for dessert the last night Poppet was here.
I don't think I'm converted but I appreciate it occasionally, especially if I've not had a starter.

(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 18:39, Reply)
Your sig is apt.
I must admit I've never had a bucket of any kind of food, I wonder if you can get buckets of nachos?
(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 18:42, Reply)
Don't see why not
Just by the time you got to the bottom it'd be just a big lump of slightly moist cheese
(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 18:43, Reply)
Sounds like Monty's underwear draw

(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 18:45, Reply)

This
they never ever put enough cheese on nachos when you buy them in a pub/restaurant/wherever.
(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 19:02, Reply)
Hard Rock Cafe nachos are the best I've ever had that weren't home-made.

(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 19:09, Reply)
starter and main
I prefer food food to sweets. I never order dessert, if I'm out on the lash and drunk I usually eat a salad, no idea why.
Something about picking the thing that is the most messy.
I'm not even sure if that's stated properly. You know what I mean.

This evening will be most busy, running out for cake and beer when I get off work, running home to get dog out of kennel, cleaning up poop [my dogs AND the other dog's], driving to BFE for the night, maybe get drunk, maybe not, hoping wine will sort that out
(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 18:45, Reply)
You really should be using the toilet by now K. Edit: NINJA!
I don't really go out on the piss any more but if I do I like to get fed good and proper before I go out so I can take it a bit more steady on the booze. That or eat nothing all day and get pissed on three pints of Carlsberg.
(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 18:46, Reply)
Yeah, I rarely go out these days, but lately we've been going to some shit redneck club and it's really fucking cheap to drink there
but it's full of trashy people
last time I got invited to go blast the windows out of some old toothless mans trailer
(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 18:55, Reply)
Depends on the menu, obviously
but since I've had surgery it's generally starter/dessert. Gotta love puddings.
I'm getting ready to go out and I'm bloody petrified. My hair is being stupid and none of my clothes look right. Argh.
(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 18:47, Reply)
He doesn't give a shit about your hair or clothes, it's what's underneath them that counts.
Scalp and skin.
(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 18:48, Reply)
I was almost feeling comforted by that
then I got to the second line which frankly creeped me out a wee bit.

You're not helping, Noel!
(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 18:49, Reply)
Sorry, you're gorgeous and funny and he'll melt at the first sight of you.
You honestly have nothing to worry about, just drink slowly :)

Aww gee thanks Noel.

I'm not doing anything. I'm bored.

(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 19:15, Reply)
Dissertation?!
What fresh hell is this?
(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 19:15, Reply)
Evil.
It's a review paper basically. Not a real dissertation but that's what the tutors call it.
Nine pages with at least 30 references, the vast majority of which must be academic research papers.

At least I got to chose my own title, so I am doing it on something decent, which is slightly motivating.
(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 19:18, Reply)
:(
I did that a month ago. It was hard work. But it was only 4000 words...

Where are you?

(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 19:46, Reply)
As you may guess I am an all three kinda guy.
However, many years ago when I was an IT project monkey my boss introduced me to the idea of a savoury dessert.
He couldn't abide sweet stuff so usually finished with a welsh rarebit topped with crispy bacon, chopped anchovy and sometimes fried quails eggs with runny yolks.
Bloody gorgeous but just an extra course before dessert if you ask me.
(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 20:16, Reply)
You don't get a gut like that from skimping on the courses.

(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 20:19, Reply)
Exactly. Not fat by accident.

(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 20:21, Reply)
Almost always Starter and Main
Desserts are nice but will always have that air of "I have no value other than flavour" whereas starters are all "I'm nutritious and that, like, protein and everything".

So there's less guilt with starters.
(, Fri 18 Mar 2011, 21:31, Reply)
I usually go for all three. And a sweet dessert. :D
