Alright bummers?
This week's tune that I am obsessed with is The Sun Can't Compare by Larry Heard. Before that, it was Scraper by Liquid Liquid, then just prior to that it was back to Unfinished Sympathy.

As an aside, I first heard Unfinished Sympathy when i was 10, back in 1990. It was on a Now That's What I Call Music tape (Google informs me Now 19, fact fans, as can be found here www.nowmusic.com/albums/now-thats-what-i-call-music-19). In fact, I loved it back then. I had no idea why, I had no idea what the lyrics were about, what sampling was, about how the production on the strings part was impeccable and I certainly had no idea what a breakbeat was (boom thwack boom boom thwack, in simple terms, fact fans) but I was obsessed with it for what must have been a couple of weeks at least.

That was cathartic as fuck, my fellow travellers.

CATHARTIC AS FUCK.

Now, tell me, who else watched La Bruce presenting the news last night and drifted off into a near pornographic reverie?

NOT ME, THAT'S WHO.

As you were.
(, Wed 25 May 2011, 20:41, 112 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
breakbeat, eh?
I'm sure it's got a different name in classical music, not that I can remember it right now
(, Wed 25 May 2011, 20:51, Reply)
Um, unless classical music has suddenly started using breakbeats, I don't think it will have a name in that field.

(, Wed 25 May 2011, 20:59, Reply)
that rhythm probably has been
you underestimate classical music
(, Wed 25 May 2011, 21:00, Reply)
From an old and sadly underused musical education
I think the phrase you're looking for is split clef.

Heavily used in brass band music.
(, Wed 25 May 2011, 21:04, Reply)
Split...clef?
Amens, Thinks and Funky Drummer are split clefs?

Fo shizzle?
(, Wed 25 May 2011, 21:05, Reply)
Look it up
I can't be bothered.

But I think essentially the principle of breakbeat is the split clef - in other words, a rythmic bar dropped into two parts.
(, Wed 25 May 2011, 21:11, Reply)
The principle of breakbeats is to sample the coolest part of a drummer showing off and then loop it and/ or chop it.
But what about La Bruce? People are evading the question.
(, Wed 25 May 2011, 21:12, Reply)
Surely the principle of breakbeats
Is to oppose a drum signature against a bass signature in the same bar.
(, Wed 25 May 2011, 21:15, Reply)
Not necessarily.
But then again, I have no formal musical education. I just like things that sound good. I am a sucker for Amens though, have a listen to this www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxEb2FrQUbE
(, Wed 25 May 2011, 21:18, Reply)
What on earth is this fucking nonsense you're subjecting me to?
An Airedale Terrier - on stilts - in a labcoat!

Good gracious man you're insane.

Oh bollocks I've inadvertantly pressed the "I like this" button. No, I don't like this.

You're a funny guy TD.

(, Wed 25 May 2011, 21:48, Reply)
I try to be dour and bad tempered.
But sometimes the real TD shines through the ill constructed b3ta facade that I assume.

I've learnt to realise that me and Jeff Bridges will never be together and I can accept it now.
Maybe you should do the same with Fiona.

yeah, we all got to realise eventually that we will die alone and unloved

Although I assume that the getting pregnant thing probably involved 'fun time'

Shambles is revelling in his new found fame on B3ta.
He's slightly funny, but he's no SpankyHanky, that's for sure.

From what I can see your living room chair seems to feature on the internet
Christ that living room needs a good clean; I'm not sure I could cope with that level of filth if I was a guest at Casa Blaireau69
(, Wed 25 May 2011, 22:30, Reply)
it was a little untidy that sunday morning, that's for sure.
much cleaner now, thanks.

I'll be honest here b69 it's got the ring of student dive to it, I just don't know how you do it.

(, Wed 25 May 2011, 22:35, Reply)
So right, it'd be like so Rory would you like a cup of tea or coffee or something (I realise it's a 'dry house')
I'd be like no mate I've *literally* just had like three, I won't need another cup of tea for a week or even more. Of course if I was sneaked one against my will I'd throw it into the potted plant or whatever.
(, Wed 25 May 2011, 22:33, Reply)
no potted plants.
yawn.
(, Wed 25 May 2011, 22:36, Reply)
Shit dude, I'd have to create a major diplomatic incident by the faux pas (is my french right there?) of leaving my unwanted cup of tea UNTOUCHED !!!!

(, Wed 25 May 2011, 22:38, Reply)
what the fuck are you chuntering on about?

(, Wed 25 May 2011, 22:39, Reply)
I dunno man, it's the sight of your living room on the internet, it's all I know about you (apart from the alcoholism)
It's just not good man. We all need to make an effort, and that living room just screams slob. I'm quite particular about my own surroundings I suppose, no offence.

It all looked a bit silly.
Just some internet willy waving.

I was surprised Legless didn't wade in and try to calm things down in his role as self-appointed unofficial mod.

Cheers.

I haven't been following his antics recently
I believe that he still hates my guts though.

Legless hates a lot of guts.
Including mine, but that's because I can smell bullshit from a mile away and have no time for the overbearing prick.

I lose no sleep over it.
