I've had a bottle of wine and a can of beer
I could open an expensive bottle of whisky or start on the cooking brandy.

Or go to bed I suppose.

i'm being terribly middle class this weekend,
as usual i went to the cricket, tomorrow i plan on going to the farmers market by the river for breakfast and to pick up some nice veg maybe a bit of meat and cheese and bread too, who knows.

I'm totally going to hit farmers markets way more
now I'm cooking from scratch. And especially since I tried to find provolone cheese at a supermarket.
(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 0:13, Reply)
it is hard enough getting a decent wodge of chorizo at the supermarket,
then again i only go to the mid range supermarkets as i don't have a car, i guess the big ones have that shit, started going the mongers etc instead, you feel well cool doing that with a hangover i can tell you.

Not even the giant Tesco by the motorway had provolone
nor Waitrose nor M&S. I'm looking at speciality cheese shops now for fucking pizza topping.

EDIT: I got a cracking CHorizo from Waitrose though. I've been just slicing bits of for snacks this evening, it's delicious.

pro-tip for a bolognese:
pack it with chorizo
(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 0:24, Reply)
duly noted
thankyou sir, that's suggested some interesting possibilities.
(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 0:31, Reply)
really, you can replace any meat in a meal with chorizo and cause absolute havoc,
it is a brilliant meat.
(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 0:32, Reply)
I'm just thinking I made a lamb stew in the slowcooker in midweek
lamb, a carrot, a parsnip, an onion, a leek, some rosemary and some stock; I reckon a big hunk of chorizo would have added some Catalan flair to it.
(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 0:41, Reply)
replace all the veg with chorizo and also make a chorizo stock.

(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 1:11, Reply)
you're veering into meat frenzy

(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 1:37, Reply)
i've still gotta finish off that rainbow trout, i can't be thinking of other meats just yet,
man i wanna do a chorizo bolognese now.
(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 1:40, Reply)

(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 1:47, Reply)

i'll probably forget or even just get lazy
and just do it with butter sauce again.
(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 2:10, Reply)
Do you have an Aldi?

(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 0:31, Reply)
And a Lidl
good call, they're good for European meats and cheeses. I shall have a scout tomorrow.
(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 0:32, Reply)
I get my chorizo in Aldi for less than half the Tesco price.
I still have to get Tigger's dinner in Tesco though.

Ellie would turn her nose up at store-brand food
had to be Felix for her.
(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 0:42, Reply)
He got bored with brands
and went to Tesco. Then he tired of that. Now it's Kit-e-Kat pouches. Not as easy to find as Whiskas or Felix.
When I bought Aldi pouches he just stared at me. For ages.
(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 0:44, Reply)
lol
Ellie would have phases where she'd go off things she'd eaten for years. I know when she had horrible terminal mouth cancer an infected scratch on her tongue (thanks emergency vet) I got her food in gravy rather than jelly. She'd always refused it before but now she loved it because she could get some of it without too much mouth movement.

not within walking distance.
well okay, within walking distance, just not near enough for me to be bothered walking, i think like 4 miles maybe? i could but generally i wouldn't bother.

Save the whisky and hit the brandy..
Cooking will just have to take the hit here, a nice whisky deserves a night to itself.
(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 0:08, Reply)
It's grim stuff though
flamed in a pan its just right but drinking it...

OMG I just remembered I have a Glenfiddich 18yo miniature somewhere! BRB

EDIT: Ooh that's good stuff. Hooray for booze websites that offer you a bunch of "special offer" miniatures just before you checkout...

(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 0:21, Reply)
I don't eat fish
one of the things I want to get over as it's just a habit these days.
(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 0:26, Reply)
ah soz,
i am learning to be a chef a bit, very slowly (from a kp level basically) and am trying to get enough skillz to get them to serve a whole meal made by me, to be honest, well you gotta have aims aint you.
(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 0:28, Reply)
Nice!
I am mostly sticking to single pan dishes, slowcooker casseroles and stuffed chicken breasts.
(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 0:33, Reply)
stuff chicken breasts with chorizo and you've won

(, Sun 12 Jun 2011, 1:03, Reply)
I learnt how to make mushroom duxelles
from a shooters sandwich recipe in the guardian.

Some of that plus some blue cheese is fantastic stuffed in a chicken breast and wrapped in pancetta.
