When I went to the doctor's yesterday he asked if I did any illicit drugs
I replied "no, unless you count amino acid supplements - L-Tyrosine and the like" which he was understandably disinterested in. Then I mentioned St John's Wort and he was all concerned. Am I missing something?
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:10, 4 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
He was probably concerned you were a hippy
or a bumder.
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:12, Reply)
That's ridiculous
No-one would ever mistake me for a hippy

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_John's_wort#Adverse_effects_and_drug_interactions

Bascially take it and certain types of happy pills and it can kill you
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:12, Reply)
It turns you into a god-botherer?

(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:15, Reply)
He was probably worried about Serotonin poisioning
if you took a fuckload of ecstasy it would effect the drugs you were pescribed and St Johns Wort can cause the same thing.
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:17, Reply)
^this
I can't take St John's Wort becaus eof the happy pills I am on. It doesn't make for a great combination.
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:19, Reply)
Intriguing
What drugs should I avoid around the August Bank holiday weekend?
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:20, Reply)
No amphetamines
unless you come off the SJW a good week or so before.
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:30, Reply)
I don't take SJW all that regularly actually
What about creatine?
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:32, Reply)
It's an amino acid mate
it's going to do bugger all even if you cane it Monty-style. Are you taking it because you're on a veggie diet or because you believe the mumbo-jumbo on the back of the pill bottle?
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:35, Reply)
Sort of both
A friend of mine recommended it as a good way to assist in putting on muscle through weightlifting, a conversation which came about as a result of my bemoaning the lack of protein in my mostly vegetarian diet
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:44, Reply)
He thought you were depressed.

(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:13, Reply)
He was trying to determine why I have dizzy spells
I daresay enough St John's Wort could make you go a bit floopy
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:16, Reply)
A good doctor?
SJW is mild at best and quite possibly totally useless.
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:14, Reply)
If something is mild doesn't mean it can't kill you if it's taken with something else.

(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:15, Reply)
Although this is in itself a good point, I choose to make a mockery of it with the following example;
Crocodile meat is mild but can kill you when not detatched from the crocodile before you eat it
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:18, Reply)
true
But does it actually do anything? I took it for a while but the effects were so weak it might as well have been a placebo.
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:21, Reply)
Yes it does, it effects some enzymes in synapses.
Just not very well.
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:22, Reply)
It has a pleasant enough effect on me
But yeah, it's not an antidepressant by any means
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:23, Reply)
Fairy Snuff
Prozak didn't do much for me either TBH, maybe I'm just a bit immune to happy pills.
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:27, Reply)
I recommend a fuckload of ecstasy
If that doesn't sort you out, sell your body to science and use the resulting cheque to buy happiness
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:30, Reply)
Dear god no.
I'm over my depression (fingers crossed) and I have no desire to burn out the pleasure centres of my brain thank you. I'll stick to the simple things that make me happy, like bicycles and food and sex.
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:33, Reply)
Good man
I am genuinely impressed. Not least with your ability to shag whilst eating on a bike.
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:34, Reply)
It takes patience and practice
Best to start with a tandem, you ride 'Stoker' while your good lady is 'Captain' then you can slip it in when she stands up on the pedals on a particularly steep climb. If you time it right you can reach simultaneous orgasm at the summit and then coast down the other side in post-coital bliss.
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:39, Reply)
A lot of thought has gone into this.

(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:40, Reply)
Yes it has
And I am going to click it accordingly
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:44, Reply)
It's surprising really
That I'd never thought of it until now but the details came together in my mind about as quickly as I could type them. This should tell you something about the way my mind works.
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:45, Reply)
It tells me that you have a quick wit and are a colossal pervert
What on earth drew you to this gentle forum I'll never know
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:47, Reply)
I am indeed The Bishop of Bath & Wells
I liked it here and thought I would fit in. Seems to be going well so far.

Well played there
I knew what that link would be but it's lost none of its appeal.
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:58, Reply)
Animal vegetable or mineral, I'll do anything to anything...
That's an inspiring mission statement right there.

and you balk at that?
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 15:05, Reply)
Hahaha!
You do have a point.
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 15:06, Reply)
Why yes, yes I do
and if you behave your self I might introuce you to it one day. *waggles eyebrows suggestively*
(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 15:07, Reply)
Woo!

(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 15:11, Reply)
Hahah!

(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:44, Reply)
*buys tandem*

(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 14:45, Reply)
I'm pretty certain it won't kill you
but it may affect the way the prescription drugs work.
At least, that is what the industry-agreed warning states...
