In principal I can't see anything inherently wrong with consenting adults paying for or getting paid for sex.
In reality it involves human trafficking and abuse and it's abhorrent. The vast majority of women in prostitution are problematic drug users. It objectifies people, be they male or female, and I don't consider objectification to be a good thing.

Alt: soup.

this is what I would have said if I wasn't tired and was more good with words
except the bit about soup. That bit's wrong
(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 21:14, Reply)
Soup is where it's it.
Carrot and lentil with cumin and coconut milk tonight, oh yes.
(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 21:17, Reply)
soup is a thick drink
not real food
(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 21:18, Reply)
I agree that it needs a solid accompaniment like decent bread.

(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 21:29, Reply)
I like Oasis soup.
You get a roll with it.

How are the piggies this weekend?

(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 21:53, Reply)
right now they are sleepy pigs
I weighed them the other day. Full grown ones are meant to be between 700 and 1200 grammes. These guys are 4 months off that. Boson is just under, while Higgs is 1300g. He's a big pig.
(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 21:55, Reply)
So Higgs is almost ready for eating then!

I've no idea what D: means.
I assume it is the face of someone who will get to enjoy roasted guinea pig in the not too distant.
(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 21:59, Reply)
it's a shocked frown
imagine I'm kind of pouting and doing sad-eyes, too. No one roasts my pigs
(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 22:00, Reply)
Sorry Captain.

(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 22:06, Reply)

s'OK, just don't make me bring out my pig-defending guns

I wish I understood this objectification thing
I don't think I get it. Treating people as objects I guess, which is probably why I dont get it because I think we are objects, among other things. Ho hum. Sorry I won't be here to reply to any reply to this post, but I'll read any answers later on with interest.
(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 21:21, Reply)
When people start failing to recognise other peoples'
'personhood', reacting to people as their bodies rather than on an empathetic level, that's when shit gets bad. That's when people excuse treating others like shit. Surely you consider yourself to be more than your external appearance?
(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 21:26, Reply)
Would I like to be seen only as my body? no
Do I object to people noticing that I have one and reationg to it as the physical object it is? No.
I don't see that the one necessarily implies the other althou I can see how it can do. Cheers for the clarification.
/breif

Back in an hour.

I think it's when it's one without the other
i, personally feel weird when people comment on my physical form. I see it more like a machine that carries my brain around. But at least now people can comment on my tat - I'm cool with that.
(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 22:25, Reply)
I don't disagree
But I tend to see both mind and body of integral parts of who we are. Ther's an interesting conversation to be had about this, but now is not likely the time, not least as I am soon to head to bed and you may. Already be there
(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 23:15, Reply)
no
I went to my own bed. It seemed more appropriate
(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 23:24, Reply)
well I should hope so young lady!
We hardly know each other, what ever Darth may say.

Actually you'd be safe, I'm not in my bed andway.
(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 23:28, Reply)
*shrugs*
"Object" denotes passivity. Objectification suggests that individuality is being ignored. It's dehumanising. It suggests inferiority.
(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 21:27, Reply)
But what if the prostitute has REALLY BIG TITS?

(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 21:31, Reply)
Then she hopefully owns a really big bra.

(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 21:34, Reply)
Thank you.
This has helped me understand the meanings attached to the term. This in turn helps me understand a point of view I have often not.
(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 23:26, Reply)
The way I see objectification
Is when you talk about what you would do to a person, as if they had absolutely no say in the matter. I get this a lot when people talk about my boobs, as if there wasn't a person attached. I know I talk about them a lot, and I don't mean anyone joining in those conversations. I mean those people (and it's not always blokes) who go ' are they real? They're massive' just out of the blue.
(, Sun 7 Aug 2011, 21:43, Reply)
Cheers b3th, more food for thought
Please feel free to tell me off if my silliness ever crosses the line.
