evening
i hear you shag goats

I'd like to meet b3th and darth, I think. Probably others, too.

here's a question - if you put in an offer on a house and the agent says there is another offer, are they probably lying?
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:10, 4 replies, latest was 14 years ago)
Quite probably.
If they keep calling you up and telling you that the other couple are very very interested, then I would imagine they *are* lying.

On the other hand, if you've already put the offer in, then maybe not.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:14, Reply)
i said I would make an offer
then she said "well, there is an offer on the table of *number bigger than asking price*"
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:17, Reply)
Hmmmm.
Sounds dubious. Especially if the signage hasn't been changed to 'under offer'. But what do I know?

You could try 'This is my absolute limit, if the other offer falls through, call me' and I bet they'd be on the phone within a day.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:19, Reply)
there is no sign on the house
but it doesn't say anything on the website either
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:24, Reply)
If it was under offer
I'd expect the website to be updated, at least. Do they have more than one branch? You could try phoning a different branch to enquire if there are any offers in on the property.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:26, Reply)
it's online only place
if it wasn't a nice house, I'd be suspicious
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:28, Reply)
Another offer and "under offer" are different things
Offers are tentative bids - under offer implies that a bid has been made but is not necessarily to the owners satisfaction, a bit like the auctioneers "any advance on...?"

Rarely used these days.

Unless it's a particularly special house I vote with b3th

(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:20, Reply)
It's too late to try to make it up to me now, hippy.
Comrade Fiery Pants.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:21, Reply)
Firey Pants?
I quite like this.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:27, Reply)
I was thinking
it's probably better as 'Comrade Pants on Fire'
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:28, Reply)
Less good.
ho hum.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:29, Reply)
I don't think they are
There's no guarantee that you'll pay more for the place, and they could lose you as well, if you think you can't afford more and take the offer back.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:16, Reply)
oh :(
kinda want this one
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:17, Reply)
Only the pretty ones.
Evenin' Cavster. I totally spanked Jeff'n' B3th at iSketch last night, I was amazing, you shoudla played.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:17, Reply)
i was mega sleepy
B3th is the queen of isketch, I can't believe you beat her
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:18, Reply)
Three whole times.
Don't believe anything she says, it's just sour grapes. I was rather drunk, I blame Jeff.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:19, Reply)
Yeah, he totally didn't.
He sucked donkey balls.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:19, Reply)
Jealousy is such an ugly emotion B3th.

(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:22, Reply)
I prefer the term 'differently beautiful'
but you did suck, and you know it.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:24, Reply)
*pleads drunkenness and not knowing how anything worked*
I was consistently comping second once I worked it all out.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:26, Reply)
I'm sure there'll be a rematch somewhere along the line
and if not, I'll just tan your arse at mini golf or something.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:27, Reply)
I rule at golf.
I'll remember to pack a particularly loud shirt.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:29, Reply)
Cavy
If they're lying they're breaking all sorts of codes.

Doesn't mean they can't lie but does mean they're being very unethical.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:26, Reply)
They are estate agents

(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:28, Reply)
Even estate agents have (are supposed to have) standards
Post-sale they should,if requested, be prepared to disclose the full offer history.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:30, Reply)
"Supposed" and "should" are not the same as "do" and "will"
/suspicious bastard.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:38, Reply)
ooh! you know about this shit
so, do I just wait a couple of days and see what they say?
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:29, Reply)
Provide proof of finance
It's all very well making a bingo-bonanza offer. People do that to hold a property then worry about the finance later.

If you can prove now that you can pay an owner might be interested. No-one is obligated to take the highest offer, especially if it's founded on dreams.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:34, Reply)
this sounds wise
I have a bit of paper which shows that the building society are chumps enough to give me a mortgage - I just wave that at them, I guess
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:38, Reply)
If the vendor wants to move
They're more likely to be swayed by an offer from someone who can pay than by a dreamer.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:42, Reply)
When I sold my flat last year
I took 70% of the valuation because I wanted a quick sale. I guess it depends if they're stuck in a chain and desperate to move.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:43, Reply)
why must it be complicated?
I don't want to play this game, I just want a place me and my pigs can live in
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:45, Reply)
Try building a house yourself
I would recommend brick over sticks or straw, though.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:46, Reply)
I've only got hay
will that do?
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:48, Reply)
As long as the estate agent doesn't huff or puff

(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:50, Reply)
Nothing that you really want is ever easy
Now man the fuck up, because it'll get worse before it gets better. You're five minutes from the front door and you're already whinging "are we there yet?"
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 17:49, Reply)
oh maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan
OK...manning up in progress...GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR *fights bear*
