It's very popular, it's the only item of clothing I own that get's me nods, smiles and comments almost every time I wear it.

I can't disagree with you there.
But regarding Thatcher, I don't see how her not doing what she did would have made it better for the country. She certainly made things pretty awful for a section of society but you can argue that it rescued the country as a whole.
