I love fish. If not, probably chicken as I don't generally indulge in red meat much - linked to macular degeneration, innit.

High fat intake is. Meat type has nowt to do with it. And, to be fair, that's only a significant problem in the US, we don't have a high enough fat intake in general yet. yet, mind you.

Don't suppose you have any links for further reading on the subject? I take this whole macular degeneration thing rather seriously.

but it's considered an issue in the US, but then in the average US diet 40% of the energy comes from fat. 40 fucking percent. If you're around 20% I think you're considered safe.
Like anything else, I suspect it's just a "be sensible about what you eat and how you live"
Although, if you have a family history of it, it's considered to be quite heavily genetic, so unlucky. Could be worse, you could be me, I've got a cast-iron family history of brain stem stroke by 60.

protein's protein. Carrots aren't more dangerous than cauliflour because they are orange, are they?
When people say "eat less red meat" they mean "less fat and saturated fat" unless they are talking about fucked-up guts; in which case it's the sinew that's the problem.

Well "good" is overstating the case a little, but you know what I mean...

you mean "a myth invented in the second world war to cover over the invention of radar", right?

Isn't it true that carrots are only good for eyesight if you're trying to look for them because they're orange?
(, Tue 22 Nov 2011, 15:57, Reply)
*May also contain elements of "myth"

Although I'd worry that it's results prompted by a subconscious idea that carrots should be good for the eyes, but sounds interesting..

Once I was diagnosed with early-onset macular degeneration I did a fuckload of research into it and came across an article declaring that there was a link between red meat consumption and a worsening of the condition. I am a massive wuss when it comes to my (already piss-poor) eyesight and was bricking it; possibly I took what may have been an under-researched article to heart. Not exactly a science whizz, here.

but there's no difference in the "meat" between poultry or cow. it's protein. Colour is a function of ageing and blood content, usually.

Frankly I'm more than happy to take your word for it. You're usually right about stuff.

Thanks to the girlfriend, on the rare occasions when I do have meat I always get the good stuff
