I have a drive in an Aston Martin awaiting me after the weekend
I like this very much

Which model?

(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:16, Reply)
A Vantage I believe
Due to the kids going mental yesterday, I didn't get a chance to read it all properly
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:17, Reply)
A mate of mine was given a year old Vantage convertible (LN400 limited edition) by his extremely wealthy brother in law
I want a brother in law like that.
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:19, Reply)
"given" as in "to keep" ?
the spawny fucking cunt.
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:20, Reply)
Yes to keep. His brother in law also insured it for him for the first twelve months.
His brother in law is seriously loaded. Runs a hedge fund. Has a garage full of about 8 high performance cars.
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:21, Reply)
fucking hell.

(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:23, Reply)
Indeed.
He is getting rid of his Lamborghini Gallardo as he lives in southeren Spain and has to get it to Madrid each time it needs a service. He's replacing it with a Ferrari, the flash fucker.

Still - people that well-off are rarely that generous.
that's why they are that well off in the first place. Fair play.
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:28, Reply)
I think people who have inherited a lot of money tend to be tight with it. Those who made it themselves (as in this case) tend to be more generous.

(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:29, Reply)
Really?
I think the entire capitalist system might disagree with you there.
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:31, Reply)
I've based this opinion solely on what I have witnessed.

(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:33, Reply)
Could be.
I dunno, one of my PhD students moved into the city when she graduated and I nearly slapped her when she was complaining that she couldn't decide whether to spend her first bonus on a 911 or pay off a lump of the mortgage on her docklands flat. Cow. She's never bought me a car.
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:32, Reply)
I agree
My brother in law has an old Ford Focus...
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:24, Reply)
Sweet
I keep ummming and aaahing about buying a TVR Tuscan. I really want one but I fucking know I can't afford to keep the bastard on the road. They need engine rebuilds about every 30K or something.
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:19, Reply)
Bastards if you live in a town too.
My colleague has one and reckons he can only pull away in second because it either stalls or shreds the tyres.

It could just be he is a shit driver.
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:22, Reply)
I've briefly driven a Tuscan and a Cerbera and more or less managed.
but in fairness to him, the clutches are seven shades of bastard and I could have just driven slightly easier ones
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:25, Reply)
I had a second hand Chimera 4 litre high compression.
Never had a problem with it. I was gutted when I had to sell it (I was skint so it had to go). Brilliant car.
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:25, Reply)
Chimeras had Rover V8s though, didn't they?
Cerbera and the Tuscan were the first ones to get the TVR V8 which, I'm told, is a little "sensitive"
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:26, Reply)
Yep it had the rover engine - 3.5 from the rover SD1, bored out to 4L.

(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:28, Reply)
I'm tempted to be honest - a good one is only 7 or 8K now, and I really do like them
but I know, deep down, it'll always be a second best choice, because the Tuscan is fucking beautiful.
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:30, Reply)
That Rover engine is "reliable" though.
You'd likely get to drive it more.
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:31, Reply)
My Dad had an SD1
so I feel those speech marks.
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:33, Reply)
British Leyland rustiness at it's finest.
Horrendous electrical problems too.
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 9:39, Reply)
If you get one, make sure it has had the 60,000 mile cambelt change, otherwise you are in for a £2k bill.
