Today I have been mostly buying ram, cooking tea, and watching X Factor.
Tomorrow I will be taking the grandkids out to do their xmas shopping, as apparently I am good at it.
I love shopping. Do you think I could get a job where I just shop all day?

You go and sit with them for an hour or two, talk about their family and friends, make a list of who they need to sort out, budget it and there you go.
Personal shoppers are big busnesses in the more affluent states, like LA and New York.

you have to know absolutely *everything* about all the latest trends and designers.
I'm really good at buying presents for people, so that would be an ace job. But I don't think the demand would be that great here in the West Country. You know how those business types get their secretary to buy their wife's birthday present? I could totally do that.

Maybe if you got a tie-in between designers and the terminally vain you'd get somewhere.
Not sure how it would work, though.

Sounds to me like a perfect excuse to move to The Upper East Side of North London.

I'd need to find somewhere to live, and I understand it's very hard to find good landlords in London.

I'm close enough to a town centre that I can walk for 10 minutes and have most shops imaginable in any town center, but far enough that noisy drunks and traffic won't bother me. And it's 25m into central london =)

What is this Linkedin I hear tell of?
Does it have any redeeming features?

It's been nicknamed "The facebook of buisness", and I agree with that. I would be careful when giving them your contact/email addresses to find people as they'll send out email to so many people if you're not reading it carefully.... anyone you've ever sent an email to or from.
I'm not very active on it, but I am on it.

I've an aversion to anything like Facebook but the guys I'm subbing for at the moment have suggested it, as a way of sweetening the news that they've nothing else for me when this contract ends on Friday.

As a man of no fixed income it may prove useful.

I'll have a closer look tomorrow but can you actually put your own website on?
(, Sat 10 Dec 2011, 22:40, Reply)
And can search by different criteria that suits.

I'm really thinking of it as a way to promote the business, although my CV has been more useful recently.
Can't be bothered tonight but I'll give it a look in the morning.

Yeah', give it a shot when you're heads a bit more straight, worst comes to it you've wasted a few hours, no big deal... but if it pulls off, then you're sorted.
