I shoudl probably find out how to do this shit. I just can't decide on a colour yet, and it all depends on how the light looks throughout the day

You paint a decent sized square somewhere on the wall
Assuming two coats, a tester pot contains about the right amount of paint. Then you watch how it looks in different lights and see if you still like it.

Depends on the state of the plaster.
If it's too chipped or cracked, you might want to skim it first. In which case, you'd have to leave it for a couple of weeks afterwards to thoroughly dry.

You need to apply equal pressure everywhere and you can't do that without a machine.

Look up Chem-Dry though
They're franchises but Chem-Dry have very strict control of franchisees - something like 3 complaints and you're out.

They've never let me down.

You'll be OK with two coats onto a neutral colour like pale green

Get a basic DIY book
Use it until you start feeling confident, then throw it away and work off instinct.

It's very easy to fuck up painting a wall but luckily it's also very easy to correct it.
