you're not the first person I've seen say they found that upsetting.
It worries me about peoples priorities when they think this is more upsetting than almost any other story in the news at the moment though.
(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 14:49, Reply)
What else is in the news that's more important than a fluffy owl being eaten?

(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 14:51, Reply)
Where they found that hamster

(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 14:52, Reply)
It said 'Lion' not 'Cougar'

(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 14:56, Reply)
it's horrible
sure you can't blame the lions, but you can blame the twats who think it's ok to make a nocturnal bird fly around during the day with camera flashes and screaming kids NEAR THE LION ENCLOSURE and then wonder why it gets disorientated, falls in and gets ripped apart. i think there is a difference between a wild animal catching food in the wild and this, which was a display put on for the public, it just disturbed me a lot!
(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 14:53, Reply)
Meh. It's an owl.
It'd been nicer if it hadn't happened, but in the overall scheme of things I find it hard to get upset.

Sorry, sounds like I'm digging at you, that's not the intent, it's more a general point about everyone who seems to be getting worked up about it. I heard more people on the train talkig about this than I have ever heard talking about anything important.
(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 14:57, Reply)
I wish it had been you Scarpe, jumping drunk into an enclosure to pet the puddy cat, then we could all have had a good laugh.
At least the fucking owl had some use in life ILLNEVA$GETUASH!!!!111!!!!
(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 14:59, Reply)
That's the nicest thing you've ever said to me, Rory.

I fancy you secretly

(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 15:05, Reply)
I know.

(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 15:05, Reply)
Fucking hell, this is a prime example of reading so much more into a story to whip up some hysteria.
There is no mention that there were screaming kids and loads of people taking photos with flashes as you are clearly implying. The quote says "The owl, who was nine and might have lived for up to 20 years in captivity, is believed to have been frightened by a noise or a camera flash and veered into a nearby window."

So there could have been a crowd of quiet people watching a well organised display and one persons camera flashed by accident, it's just as likely.

There is no blame to be laid, people carry out falconry displays all over the country and sometimes the birds fuck off and sometimes they attack people but most of the time they don't and the fact that an unfortunate accident occurred is no reason to start blubbing.

It's the Daily Mail, would we ever expect anything else?

(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 15:06, Reply)
No, it's Swipe. The article itself is actually quite tame and non hysterical.

(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 15:08, Reply)
You are entirely correct, and I do apologise
It makes a change though, usually they're like This
(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 15:09, Reply)
Actually, having read it again
it really does upset me after all. There are some proper fucking morons in this world and this is just yet another prime example of the utter, irredeemable pointlessness of the human race. What kind of fucking idiot would use a flash in broad daylight?

I despair.
(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 15:11, Reply)
There is no proof there actually was a flash
If the stupid bird couldn't actually land, how do we know it hadn't suffered from a stroke which is what caused the disorientation?
(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 15:12, Reply)
I know.
I was just being facetious.
(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 15:13, Reply)
You ever tried stroking a bird in mid air?
If you have, then you'll understand why I'm banned from ever flying with Easyjet again.
(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 15:16, Reply)
I think you misunderstood why they call it 'easy'.

(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 15:20, Reply)
having met several of the cabin crew
no, he's definitely not misunderstood.
(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 15:21, Reply)
It's just a shame it wasn't ANGRY OWL.
ANGRY OWL would have fucked that lion's shit right up.
(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 15:19, Reply)

(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 15:20, Reply)
hahaha. Aw, man, that's epic.

(, Wed 1 Feb 2012, 15:21, Reply)
