Try running about 8K on friday, and maybe another 5K on sunday, then do a gentle short (3-44K) run during the week.

Your muscles only have a finite supply of glycogen (I think, energy basically) and if you deplete it by doing big runs before your main "big run" then when it comes to the main run your muscles won't have as much energy and you will find it hard. That's why all training programs have a "tailing off" period before the main event.
If you aren't fit enough to manage the 10K by now, then it's basically too late, and try to cram in extra training before the event will just make you feel worse.

I'd just not run it before

(although I'm not sure this is a big factor for a 10K).
Edit: if you're doing a 10K and you're already running 10K you'll be grand, just take it easy a few days before.

trying to run 30K in a week when he's used to only running 15K max will probably give him an injury.
