The week
This week old Thatcher will be going down t'pit for the last time. What's gonna happen? Anyone actually give a shit?

What are you looking forward to/dreading this week?

Good news sporters
thanks to the changes in income tax, I will be almost £200 better off this year.

Yey for George Osbourne!

I appear to be £20 a month better off.
If this proves to be the case I shall set up a £20 direct debit to The Socialist Workers Party out of sheer bloody mindedness.

hahah
biting off your nose there old chap
(, Mon 15 Apr 2013, 10:57, Reply)
No skin off my nose.
I'm earning enough frankly, I do not need or deserve a tax break. I could give money to a charity supporting those disadvantaged by this budget, but that would just be propping up the government shortfall, so I'll look for the best political place to put it. SWP may not be the way to go, so I'll have a look around and see.
(, Mon 15 Apr 2013, 11:02, Reply)
send it to me, I'll invest it wisely for you

(, Mon 15 Apr 2013, 11:04, Reply)
I only give enough of a shit to think that everybody deserves some dignity in death
and the people who're celebrating are at best being deeply unpleasant.

Going to see Les Mis on Saturday. I am both looking forward to and dreading it.

Had a bit of a facebook row along these very lines
My opinion was the same as yours...an old lady with a family has died...bit of respect please. I was then accused of being a 'pathetic apologist' and 'a tory'. Point missed I think.
(, Mon 15 Apr 2013, 10:53, Reply)
To paraphrase Thatcher herself
if they hate her that much, it means she actually made a difference. Good or bad depends on your perspective, but to be celebrating the death of a decrepit, half-deranged old woman is not at all cool.
(, Mon 15 Apr 2013, 11:09, Reply)
I'm taking the day off to watch and wave a small union jack flag

(, Mon 15 Apr 2013, 10:49, Reply)
I won't be watching any TV news this week
will be interesting to see if the whole thing rebounds on the Tories, though.
(, Mon 15 Apr 2013, 10:49, Reply)
apparently it is already helping to galvanise them as a party

KICK THE BUCKET. Hahahaha. Bucket.
(, Mon 15 Apr 2013, 10:55, Reply)
As previously mentioned
I'm a bit peeved that my bus route will be "curtailed or on diversion" even though it runs a good couple of mile outside the funeral area. Other than this, and London generally being a big whining nancy, I foresee very little of interest happening.

Looking forward to getting back on my bike and to some decent weather for a change.
(, Mon 15 Apr 2013, 10:52, Reply)
They are going to have a private cremation after the funeral.
She will rise from the ashes and shit on us all from a great height.

i hope you choke on her smoke

(, Mon 15 Apr 2013, 11:04, Reply)
Well, I hope you die under the wheels of her gun carriage.

You know...the stuff that Margaret Thatcher invented.
(, Mon 15 Apr 2013, 11:44, Reply)
There are bound to be a few arrests. I won't watch the funeral as the eulogies wouldn't be good for my blood pressure.

(, Mon 15 Apr 2013, 11:29, Reply)
you live in a world of labels, fine wines and foods etc. Implicit snobbery and conceit at anything that doesn't subscribe to that world, and frequent banding of the terms pleb and peasant for not either having money, or having the correct brand or label.
Yeah that's definitely middle class middle England tory conceit if ever I've seen it.
(, Mon 15 Apr 2013, 11:29, Reply)
It's just as well that New Labour didn't end up so Tory
that it left the Tories reeling for want of some traditional Tory ground to stand on.

Otherwise Battered, the dyed-in-the-wool-working-man-made-good, might look a little silly.

You know it is actually possible to be middle class and vote Labour right?

(, Mon 15 Apr 2013, 11:34, Reply)
yeah, it's not like new labour didn't jump on to the thatcher bandwagon and in many ways became more tory than the torys. Check out their continued deregulation of the city, refusal to reinstate union powers, and all that jazz
