it's AB's birthday.
Fenland's favourite feeder is going to the pictures and then to the Wimpy with some friends as a treat. What has been your best birthday to date?

my birthday is wack
Mid-January, so everyone's too skint after Christmas and new year to be able to do much. When I was a student, the semester A deadline was always a few days after my birthday so I'd be doing coursework instead of celebrating.

Yet another reason why I wish I'd never been born.

Not sure, either my 40th bbq or a couple where I've been 'on tour' with different organisations. All have involved getting thoroughly hammered with a good bunch of mates, which is the best kind of birthday imo.

Yeah that's about right
In fact KMFDM were scheduled to play last year but pulled out. Imperative Reaction are headlining this year. I am massively, massively excited about this and fuck anyone who mocks me for it.

See, the best thing about Bradford is the fit Asian birds, but Martin's a homosexual so he misses out on that one saving grace in an otherwise bleak and suffering city.

I was a big industrial fan when I was 15 or so.
That's what pointed me in the direction of Warp and Rephlex.
(, Thu 25 Apr 2013, 8:54, Reply)
Queer.
LFO pointed me in the direction of Warp. When they released loads of shit I pointed myself in the direction of other things.

They released some pretty decent compilations of early bleep techno which I have (I think that was Warp anyway).

Autechre vanished up their own arses. Started out making very melodic, crystalline, hip hop influenced electonics, descended into glitch for the sake of it, alienating shit.

Those fellas know their way around a melody fo sho.

Ooh, Push Button Objects, that takes me back.
Shit lineups though, you need to get down to InFest, that's proper electronic music, not that pretentious 'underground' shit that you listen to, purely because it's obscure.

It's obscure for a reason, fucknuts.
(, Thu 25 Apr 2013, 9:32, Reply)
Warp lost their way when they started signing guitar bands.
LFO were great. Most of their acts were, some still are- Jamie Lidell, for example, is excellent.

What compilations are those? Artificial Intelligence?
(, Thu 25 Apr 2013, 9:03, Reply)
first two of those were boss

(, Thu 25 Apr 2013, 9:05, Reply)
Yer
Did you get any of those Warp 10 compilations? I have the remixes one, Mogwai covered Arcadian by Link. It's well good.
(, Thu 25 Apr 2013, 9:09, Reply)
nah artificial intelligence 1 & II were my warp period

(, Thu 25 Apr 2013, 9:12, Reply)
That's no bad thing.
Were you not into Boards of Canada and Plaid and that?
(, Thu 25 Apr 2013, 9:12, Reply)
well yeah, but haven't bothered with any warp compilations since artificial ii, not sure why

(, Thu 25 Apr 2013, 9:19, Reply)
I haven't kept up with Warp for a few years now.
Like I said, they lost focus when they started signing bands like Maximo Park. They nearly signed Mogwai when they left Chemikal Underground, I would have approved of that.

You into Seefeel? I've been digging them lately, they're vintage Warp.
(, Thu 25 Apr 2013, 9:22, Reply)
Darth, you're a reboot Battlestar Galactica fan right?
I'm up to about the 8th episode of the 2nd series and it's only through sheer power of will and bloody-mindedness that I keep plugging away trying desperately to see what everyone thinks is so great about this series. I really must be missing something because, outside of Edward James Olmos, it's just dull and shit and badly acted.
(, Thu 25 Apr 2013, 8:44, Reply)
You'll love it, you will love it.
As more cylons are revealed you see more on their ships. Apollo and Starbuck get better. Felix Gaeta and Saul become some of the best characters, and then there's big explosions.
(, Thu 25 Apr 2013, 8:45, Reply)
Thanks for that 'Kevin Keegan'

(, Thu 25 Apr 2013, 8:46, Reply)
What Chompy said
The acting improves hugely as the whole thing gets a bit less earnest. The second half of the second series is just fantastic.
(, Thu 25 Apr 2013, 8:51, Reply)
Fair enough, I'll keep at it
To be fair, the way they've handled to Baltar character has been pretty great but the series isn't gelling as a whole yet.
(, Thu 25 Apr 2013, 8:55, Reply)
It comes together much more as the series arc emerges
Christ that sounded pretentious
(, Thu 25 Apr 2013, 8:56, Reply)
Well if you don't like it by now you won't like the rest of it
Cos the third season starts becoming shit and apart from 3 episodes, the fourth is a big steaming turd
(, Thu 25 Apr 2013, 9:11, Reply)
Might just give up and rewatch Deep Space Nine from the start instead

To be fair it was a major fuck up to give GPs an opt out from out of hours care.
But Hunt is probably going to try to fix it by handing it over to homeopathists instead.
