I just heard on the radio
that a group of 30 teenagers attacked two policemen in Croydon.

What. the. fuck.

haha! That'll show em.
I hate the police. They are a total waste of space. Never stopped me from getting mugged, beaten up, ripped off by drug dealers, burgled, robbed (again), beaten up (again), getting run over by a traffic light breaking car etc. Tossers.
(, Fri 18 Jul 2008, 13:11, Reply)
not the point
the news tells me (and it was on Planet Rock so is trustworthy) that the cops asked one of the girls to pick up some litter she had dropped. then the whole rabid, braying mob started on them.

if the shits think they are above the law then what's to stop them beating up, or killing even, anyone they choose?
(, Fri 18 Jul 2008, 13:13, Reply)
agree - law doesnt work
Let's all get guns!
(, Fri 18 Jul 2008, 13:15, Reply)
I don't want a gun
because it would mean everything other bugger can have one!

*looks around nervously*

we need to come up with a way to get these kids to respect something. Anything would be a start!
(, Fri 18 Jul 2008, 13:17, Reply)
Well, it *is* Croydon...
The problem is that kids don't have any respect. For anything, least of all authority. And they know that a copper can't touch them. I know that sounds a bit Daily Mail, but if they had respect for coppers, and were maybe a bit worried that when they got home they'd be bollocked, maybe this wouldn't happen...

Oh, and baz: "...stopped me from getting mugged, beaten up, ripped off by drug dealers, burgled, robbed (again), beaten up (again), getting run over by a traffic light breaking car etc. Tossers."

Fair enough, I suppose... But you want the police to stop you getting ripped off by drug dealers??

I really think that the Police have an extremely hard job to do, which is not made any easier by reams and reams of red tape. *was going to join the police*

EDIT: Re: Guns:

From Dylan Moran:

"In America, you see these school shootings, and the people on the tv saying 'My God! This is terrible! How did this happen?'

And you think... Well, you all have guns..."

My fiance's Dad is a policeman, and used to be in the Tactical Firearms unit. Some of the stuff he's seen would curl your toenails. Guns are not fun.

Nope, I want legal drugs.

RE: respect etc - thats all bullshit. There are too many of them and they should be sterilised. Fuck human rights. They are not human until they treat other humans with respect. Revoke or curtail their right to exist until they get civilised.

Extreme? Oh fuck yeah!

I blame the parents.
Parents should be taught that the buck stops with them and not the teachers or police or government.

They winge and complain about not being able to control their kids but if they had brought them up properly in the first place then they wouldn't be having these problems. If the kids break the law then the parents should be partly held responsible and put in jail. That would wake the fuckers up and make them actually start parenting the kids and not just letting them roam the streets willy nilly.
(, Fri 18 Jul 2008, 13:24, Reply)
@BGB
no, it wouldnt. They would merely find somebody else to blame. They are not interested in taking responsibility.
(, Fri 18 Jul 2008, 13:27, Reply)
^ A bit of that.
I saw on the news last week about a town in Cornwall that is having a 'voluntary curfew' on under 16's.

The interviewed a parent (a parent!) about it, and he said "It won't work. You can't stop 'em going out, and you can't stop 'em getting in to trouble!"

What? You fucking can, mate. I'm 28 and I still worry about what my Mum will think if she knows I've been out drinking! And you can stop them from getting in to trouble. It's about having a sense of right and wrong, and actually fearing the consequences of your actions.
(, Fri 18 Jul 2008, 13:28, Reply)
I agree with BGB
Hold the parents responsible for their kids! Isn't that the whole thing about being a parent, until the ankle biter is over 18 you are supposed to responsible for what they get up to.

I live in Croydon, and have done for a long time, it's a crime to see what was a good area going down the tubes the way it is.
(, Fri 18 Jul 2008, 13:32, Reply)
there's no deterrent
as you put it DiT, they aren't scared of the consequences of their actions.

I'm 26 and still can't get a tattoo because at some point my parents will see and be very disappointed in me.

We seem to have let this situation get out of hand.
Now were all up in arms about it and it's spiraling out of control as these teenagers start having kids of their own. Something drastic needs to be done to turn it around. Some kids will be bad and do stuff to vent themselves of their teenage angst and that's ok but when they start using knives and beating up old people etc then we need to get heavy handed with them.

We let this get to this point and it now it's time to put aside the liberal ideas that we have lived by, roll our sleeves up and sort it out.

Afternoon!
I decided to look this article up on MSN. For some reason this came up instead:

"Police in London have arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of having sex with a sheep.

Metropolitan Police detectives raided the man’s house in Dulwich, south-east London, after his DNA was matched to a pair of grey jogging bottoms found at the scene of a reported bestiality incident.

The arrest follows several complaints made to police about a man molesting sheep on grassland in Chislehurst, Kent, in May and June. According to the Daily Telegraph, two joggers became suspicious when they spotted a man pulling up his trousers as he stood near a sheep that was lying on the ground. A stable girl who came face to face with a man during a similar incident also contacted detectives.

When officers arrived at the scene they found the pair of jogging bottoms lying next to a sheep.

The Daily Telegraph also reports that police are also investigating claims that the suspect took photographs of the animals before the attacks.

Penetration of or by an animal is illegal and carries a sentence of up to two years imprisonment."

@Al
It's not just stabbing etc. It's an inherent total lack of respect. Teenagers will be teenagers and vandelize and generally muck about as we all did but they just don't give a shit anymore about anything.

Late last year I moved from inner city Manchester to a small town in Yorkshire. I go running sometimes and when I lived in the city if I ran past a group of kids I had to run around them because they wouldn't move out of the way. They would just stand their ground and give you the shiteye. In my little town the kids still hang around and probably cause trouble in some way or other but they actually move out of the way when I run past. It completely threw me the first time it happened.

It's just about respect that's all.

Natural Selection's Epic Fail
It's an unfortunate irony against natural selection that the (largely) unintelligent masses of the chav end of society are the ones who breed the most, they seem to be severely lacking in moral and social conscience; valuable characteristics that need to be instilled into the children that they so frequently pop out. The result is that this kind of behaviour has reached a majority and majority wins. The more intelligent and socially aware people are the ones who are sensible enough to hold off on having children until they know they can care for them properly (nb. not meaning offence to any b3tans who did have a child at a young age, accidentally or otherwise, but you know what I mean re chavtasticness).

If I get told off at work for making a minor mistake it stays with me for a good few days, the sense of guilt and shame is overwhelming, the same goes for disappointing my parents and I don't even want to think about how I'd feel if I got in trouble with the police, but it seems that nowadays that value doesn't even exist in teenagers or young adults. I read on the news the other day that there's a 10 year old on some social website (I assume Bebo, the Chav's Choice) boasting about "rollin' with the ganstas" and being proud of threatening people with knives.

Society is in ruins, but we all feel so powerless, what can we do?

Erm
I've just read the article about the incident and it looks like it wasn't just a group of teenagers there were a few people that were older than the 2 officers involved in the attack (The officers were 25 and 29).

"Police said a 15-year-old girl was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault. Two men, aged 34 and 38 and from South Norwood in south London, were arrested today on suspicion of assault and violent disorder"

Its not just the teenagers that need to learn some respect.

Society...
Must take some of the blame, as we seem to be breeding a generation of people who are absolved of all responsibility for their actions.

It might sound a tad medievel, but if you're caught being a cunt, then punishment should hurt. We pander to preserving the human rights of those who abuse the rights of others.

On the flipside, our forces of law and order need a shake up too. For example, in London it's no longer a crime to vandalize someone's car. Yet it's a crime to drop a cigarette butt out of one.

The reason for this is simply to make the statistics easier to swallow. Throwing targets, statistics and paperwork at the police is preventing them from doing their job and destroying any public goodwill.

I like the Singapore approach
However, as it is not available to us in the EU (darn those pesky laws), forget tags, ASBOs, Parenting Orders and their ilk.

Community Service now means bright orange Guantanamo style jumpsuits (preferably with "I am a lowlife twat" on the back), shovelling the rubbish, cutting the grass and making it very obvious that being a 'Gangsta' ends up with you raking leaves in the rain while everyone laughs at you.

Parents of those under 16/18 in the dock next to their errant offspring for any court appearance after a first offence.

Re-introduce the concept of 'reasonable chastisement'.

And a mandatory 15 year sentence for pretending to be (a) black (b) from South Central LA or (c) a member of a 'crew'.

I live in Croydon
Seeing the pond life that wander around bearing Primark bags and wearing knockoff Ugg boots, I am really not surprised that this happened in Croydon. There are certain elements of the local population that you can guarantee will try and cause trouble. Uneducated, council estate dwellers who drink Stella as a pre-fight warmup. I may be stereotyping, but unfortunately they do nothing to disprove this stereotype.
