If you get up at lunchtime and have breakfast then, is that lunch or breakfast? Or would that be a brunch situation?

I dunno, if I have lunch type food I call it lunch
and if I'm having toast or croissants or whatever, I call it breakfast. I don't usually call anything brunch at all.

I put it to YOU, monsieur
that if you have croissants, you call it petit déjeuner.

Similarly if I don't eat lunch until mid afternoon I don't call it lupper or linner or what have you.

I'm pretty sure having booze with lunch doesn't make you an alcoholic.

They've been replaying Paul Temple drama shows on the radio,
They're based in the 30s and 40s. They drink all the fucking time, "oh I'll have a G&T, but make it a single it's only 10:30am" that sort of thing. They're great.

I'm reading a collection of H Beam Piper's SF
it's all written in the 50s but set far in the future, so the amount of smoking and drinking is hilarious. I don't think any character goes more than 5-10 minutes without having a cigarette or re-lighting their pipe.
