I spent £275 on a new starter motor on Saturday :(

That chuggy old motor must be quite expensive.

Yeah, but it's the shit one with a tiny engine

(, Mon 3 Mar 2014, 13:55, Reply)
NO IT'S NOT, IT'S FAST AND BLACK AND SPORTY WITH A BLACK LEATHER INTERIOR AND A 3 LITRE ENGINE
just because you're now stuck with Volvos and other such saloon delights.

£120 a year in road tax and it'll smash yours on speed.

(, Mon 3 Mar 2014, 14:24, Reply)
Get a more fuel efficient car then

(, Mon 3 Mar 2014, 13:54, Reply)
The bought out cost of a new car will always outweigh the cost of fuel in an old car

(, Mon 3 Mar 2014, 13:56, Reply)
Depending of course on how long you intend to keep any new car for, how long you have kept your old car for
how much you pay in VED on your old car and how much it will be for a new car.

So yeah, apart from all the times when it won't you're absolutely right.
(, Mon 3 Mar 2014, 14:24, Reply)
How many miles would you have to drive to make up the thousands of pounds a new car would cost?
More than would make the savings worth while I'll bet
(, Mon 3 Mar 2014, 14:28, Reply)
If your road tax is a few hundred and you moved to one that was only £20, or free, that's a big saving over a few years
and such a car would be markedly more fuel efficient too.

So if you drive a lot of miles that will also make a big difference.

Honestly, do you not get that there is a balance on costs where it's worth buying a new car, to which you also have to add the fact that a new car is less likely to break down and need new parts, plus it doesn't need an MOT for three years, I mean really, you're allegedly an intelligent person, surely you can see that there are situations when a new car is better value over its lifetime than it is flogging an older car.

I'm going to try to get my mpg down to single digits with my next car.

(, Mon 3 Mar 2014, 14:29, Reply)
You could probably manage it with this one if you drove everywhere in first gear

(, Mon 3 Mar 2014, 14:32, Reply)
Oh yeah I reminded you to do that last night.
