Hey Weekirst
Not too bad - Miss K has gone back to Manchester so I'm all bored and watching films then playing footie later on.

How's you?

Hello
I've had a quiet Sunday just chilling after moving all the stuff from a 5-bed biiig house into a 2-bed end of terrace.

I'm about knackered!

Am good. I've tried replying twice now, but my silly laptop keeps freezing up! I'm so very bored, yet I just can't bring myself to put on clothes and venture outside!

hello all
just got back from swansea, 2 hours sleep and a 6 hour drive home makes halfy tired and grouchy!
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 16:03, Reply)
Hello.
Sundays suck. We have been to town to try and find Mr Bin a new wallet among other things. No one seems to sell them. The only ones we could find were in marks and sparks and they were leather which he didn't want. FAIL.

Afternoon all
weekirst - sounds like your thermostat is knackered. Assuming gas ovens have thermostats, which they must, surely?

Edit@Mrs L - Wallets are usually found in market stalls, in my experience.

I hate sundays... i know I have t go back to work tomorrow and it spoilts my enjoyment of a day I other wise would have enjoyed doing not a lot with!

*edit* Yeah, discovered that last night trying to make loaf cakes. Was not a happy bunny...
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 16:24, Reply)
So your loaf cakes
looked like Kind Alfred had made them, then?

Ha h aha! I thought, after i went to check on them after 15 minutes, that they were on fire! :-O
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 16:35, Reply)
What I don't understand about Sundays is why is there nothing on the telly?
There used to be some good stuff like 'Richard not Judy' but they've all gone. Working on a Sunday suck more than Sundays do though.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 16:36, Reply)
There's plenty on the telly
if your spend the day watching stuff you recorded while away on holiday, like I've just done.

Telly's crap though. Off-topic is where the entertainment is.

Or it would be if there were more of us.

Dragging my bones around and doing things I've needed to do all day. Not going to go for the swim I told myself I'd for for though. I am going to the pub quiz later though.

afternoon folks
how are you all.

I'm mildly inebriated

you'll be pleased to hear I got some surf yesterday, had a bbq and today have been playing a pleasant sunday lunchtime gig with my band. (see main OT board for the exciting bit)
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 17:02, Reply)
Wasted talent.
I've done some drawing and realised I'm going to have to do a hell of a lot more if I'm going to get back to the ability I once had.

Making myself go to the gym is a piece of piss compared with making myself sit down with a pencil and drawing pad.

Phooey!
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 18:33, Reply)
I was never any good at drawing/painting or the like
Even to this day I can be out-drawn by a 12 year old. I struggle to draw a straight line.

So your attempts will be better than mine, BGB.

Edit - Good news Vipros. Well done.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 18:47, Reply)
bgb
you probably just need a wee bit o' practice! I'm sure you'll get right back into the swing of things! :)
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 18:49, Reply)
I can't draw for shit either
was never all that much good at music to be honest. fortunately our rhythm section are awesome

thanks k2k6 :-)
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 18:56, Reply)
Like drawing
They say you never forget how to ride a bike. This may be true, but you do lose a lot of skill and confidence over the years. I was on a bike for only the second time in over twenty years when I was on holiday recently, and I was wobbly as hell.

Even my skills at teh sex aren't that out of practice!
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 19:10, Reply)
Just watched a very interesting programme about sculpture.
Got my creative juices flowing a little more. I shall endeavor to practice a little most evenings and see what happens.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 20:03, Reply)
Don't speak too much about your flowing juices
Or you'll get Tourette's started!

I meant to watch that BGB
but the chap who presented it looked like an art cock.
Don't like art cocks.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 20:10, Reply)
You can't escape art cocks in the art world.
I learnt this while at art school.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 20:13, Reply)
Are art cocks
magenta coloured?
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 20:18, Reply)
@K2K6
Only when their talking passionatly about their art.

Edit - I met my future bezzie mate the first day at art school. We recognized in each other that we were the least likely to become art cocks so clung together while everyone else started taking it all too seriously.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 20:22, Reply)
Ah yes
Of course. They get a bit worked up about it.

I saw a trailer today for a programme about Tracy Emin. Now there's a pretentious waste of space if ever I saw one.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 20:27, Reply)
@K2K6
I dunno about Tracy. I get the impression she doesn't take herself too seriously.

The trouble about the art world is that to get anywhere you have to become one of them.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 20:33, Reply)
@BGB
Which makes me all the more glad that I'm a scientist, and not an artist.

If you could call music 'art' then I do appreciate some stuff which others would find a bit over the top, like certain elements of jazz and prog rock. But I have my limits!
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 20:39, Reply)
My family are art cocks.
My uncle is an art professor. And mr Bin is, among other things, an artist. See profile for website as I can't an bothered to type it as I'm on the phone.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 20:41, Reply)
@Mrs Bin
Just checked out Mr Bin's website....Woo!

Mr Bin can't be a cock or else you wouldn't have married him. There are some artists who seem to have evaded this problem. There were some cool people at art college actually but most were numpties.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 20:49, Reply)
Yeah
I had a look at Mr Bin's site last week, and was sufficiently impressed. I know nothing of art, so I can't give any informed opinion, but to the layman it looked pretty good.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 20:52, Reply)
Mr Bin's not an art cock
I think he only went to art college to spend three years looking at nudey ladies.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 20:52, Reply)
Now there's a good idea
If only I could draw...
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 20:57, Reply)
@Mrs Bin and K2K6.
Have you seen most of the nude models that art colleges have. I think his motives were artistic, believe me.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 21:02, Reply)
I did once see
an exhibition of paintings of a nude woman from students at the art college in Dundee.

I don't know how good a likeness they were, but she appeared to have a minge like Terry Waite's allotment (to use one of my favourite phrases)
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 21:06, Reply)
@K2K6
You have to remember that beautiful bodies can be very boring to draw. It's sometimes about the form and not the beauty of something that can inspire you.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 21:10, Reply)
That's the line I always use BGB.
I love 'minge like Terry Waite's allotment'. Made me laugh like a retard.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 21:15, Reply)
Good point, BGB
Were it a particularly 'interesting' model, I'd probably be too busy ogling to draw properly!

Edit@Mrs Bin - I think I stole that from Viz many moons ago, when Mr Waite was still current news.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 21:16, Reply)
I don't get it.
Why would Terry Waite have an allotment?
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 21:17, Reply)
@BGB
Assuming you're not being sarcastic, the point is that by the time he returned from captivity, his allotment (were he to have had one) would be seriously overgrown.

And hence like an unkempt fanny.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 21:22, Reply)
Me....sarcastic?
Ah I see. I get it now. Sometimes my synapses just don't spark fast enough. Tis old age and brain damage through hedonistic excesses from my yoof.

Right, I'm off to my pit to read.
A lovely depressing book called The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I do love a good tale of armaggedon.

I'll leave you all to your talk of overgrown bushes before it really descends into the smutfest that will transpire.

But I'm in lurk mode cos mrs. In tights is on the laptop and posting from iPhone is annoying!

Did you have a good weekend, mrs.L? Hope so!
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 22:39, Reply)
I have the laptop
at the moment.
Posting from the phone pisses me off too.

We didn't do much this weekend to be honest.
Mr Bin was at work on Saturday but It was his last day!
He starts he new job as a teaching assistant tomorrow so we spent today getting 'back to school stuff'. One thing he wanted was a new wallet which seem strangely hard to come by.

Am I right in thinking that you went to Dorset?
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 22:44, Reply)
I certainly did!
Shatesbury to be precise! Also went to Old Wardour Castle (near Tisbury I think), where I'm getting married next year!

I love it down there, I can't wait to move there (at least a year away though! :( )
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 22:50, Reply)
I'd love to move back there.
I just don't think I can afford it.

And I worry about living close enough to Mother that she can drop in!
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 22:52, Reply)
That is a consideration...
But the property down there is so much cheaper (well, for normal things anyway) than it is here in the smoke!

Also, the Mrs. is very close to her family, so it'd be nice for her. But, we're living the life at the moment, and we don't want to give it up too quickly!
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 22:58, Reply)
Well when you compare the prices to London
then it will be cheaper.

I'm from near Sherborne and trains to London run every 2 hours, and take 2 hours. That is now considered commuter belt by some.

*edit* I'm sure you have thought of this but people who can prove they are local can buy new build houses cheaper there.
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 23:02, Reply)
Sherborne?
Lovely area of the world, I looked at buying a house there not 6 months ago!

(I didn't because it would have cost the mortgage again to fix the place up, and then I got a new job and had to stay up here)

Thankfully, Mrs Devil is a Dorsetian, so that should be ok for us!

But still, I bloody love London. I enjoyed the quiet this weekend, but it's good to be back in the City!

Right, I'm off to bed. Night Mrs.L, and any lurkers!

Wondered where tonight's thread was til I stumbled across the only one with lots of replies in it *facepalm*.

Long day, but mostly good and I has teh fluffeh :)

Glad you had a good time in Dorset DiT
Mrs L, have you thought about teaching supply just to get you back working for a bit or has this been asked 1000 times already?
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 23:16, Reply)
If you find yourself in Sherborne
again go to a coffee shop called Olivers at the top of the high st. Fabulous place.

Evening Becks. Bless you for thinking of me.

The problem with supply is that the cocking council won't have me on the supply list as I am newly qualified.
However I have written to every school in a 10 mile radius telling them that I am available. Just need to wait for the phone to ring!

Bastards
does that include posh schools, special needs, and all other forms of teaching? A friend of mine was in a similar situation a few years ago, so buggered off to China to do tefal stuff for a few months and liked it so much that he stayed.

Hope they get in touch soon as I know how soul destroying it is waiting for them to call you.

I'm off to bed as I've got an early start tomorrow. Night xx

A long way away though, and once again I drove over 500 miles in a weekend. Stayed in old Aberdeen, which was lovely, and the wedding was really nice. Good food too. And drank some port.

That was our last ceilidh of the summer. We have done 9, and it's been crazy, but brilliant.
