This is a question Off Topic

Are you a QOTWer? Do you want to start a thread that isn't a direct answer to the current QOTW? Then this place, gentle poster, is your friend.

Rather interesting
to have my oldest son posting on here. I've already found out a bit more about his sex life than I really wanted to know, and have seen him make a gaffe or two. (I had a quiet word with him about this today.)

Not sure that I want to blow his cover yet, though, so I'll not reveal his screen name...

take it
as a sign of good parenting that he's posting on a forum that values literacy and free thinking ;)

He knows I'm on here
so he set up an account and started photoshopping things. He's also answered last week's QOTW.

He told me his screen name, so he knows that I know who he is on here. And he knows mine.

Today a friend of mine paid him a good compliment- he said that my son is basically me in a different body. Same twisted humor, same odd way of looking at the world... At least it was meant as a compliment. Whether or not it really is would be another question I suppose.

Tell us his screen name so we can mentor him and accelerate his online skills.

Thanks Dad
for keeping my screenname a secret! :O)

The question is RL
Will he learn more about your sex life than he really wants to know?

I was reading an article about something related to this. When we post details of our lives in places like this, blogs etc, what we forget is how long they will be there. There is a very real chance that in the future our children or even grandchildren could read about aspects of our lives that we might not want them to know.
I'm looking at you Chart Cat

Second generation b3tans
I wonder how many there are? I do know that a couple of years back someone discovered their father was a regular QOTWer (no, not Email Zola!). My brother has joined b3ta, he's 10 years my senior... Does that count?

I'll enjoy speculating as to who Loon jnr is!

@Mime
'Mentor him and accelerate his on-line skills'?

You mean wind him up and take the piss.

Oh, go on...
Do share.

*EDIT* Actually, I have my suspicions, on reading your post again properly.

Were he to really dig around
he might indeed. However, his interests are more with Photoshop than with the written word, so I doubt that our paths will cross too much.

He'll find his way around soon enough- he has enough sense to not be too rude.

I am Sparticus
Good on you, Dad* :)

Loon....
he's not Chart Cat is he?
I hate to think of a father reading that of their son.
(, Sun 5 Oct 2008, 17:42, Reply)
'Fraid not.
No, he's a newbie- only been on here a few weeks. But he's already made a few posts, so he's getting the hang of it.

He's 18, so he's one of the younger set on here. He's already gotten some shit for using txtspeak, so I'm hoping he'll have taken a lesson from this.

His faux pas was to come across as a belligerent n00b, calling someone a fucking wanker and a nob. While I give him credit for trying to learn the British way of speech, I did chide him a little for insulting people. But I imagine that people will set him straight soon enough...

Dear god
You're right. Does anyone know how to delete the internet?

I'm hoping

Sprog Grimsdale never discovers this place (let alone Xena), but I've decided that I'll tell her - Sprog that is - my 'true identity' if she turned up on my death-bed.

Nothing like planning ahead is there.

it's not the yank
who told us all off for criticising the nhs, is it?!
(, Mon 6 Oct 2008, 16:31, Reply)
Oh hell no!
That's someone in San Francisco. Believe me, had that been my son I would have forced him to edit it immediately.

No, thus far he's only answered one QOTW question and has been mainly hanging out in /board.
