Well, now it's officially confirmed....
news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7698539.stm

Who do you reckon will be the next doctor?

I don't want it to be Paterson Joseph, as I've only seen him in two things, and both times I enjoyed watching him die!

We need someone fairly manic, similar to how Rhys Ifans is in 51st state.

Suggestions?

Brian Blessed
Or Rik Mayall.

I actually think
that Paterson Joseph could be very good indeed!
Hopefully not Russel Tovey (or whatever he's called), as the papers were reporting a few weeks ago. He's just too young-looking.

Peter O'Toole
would be ace, if a bit old to run around.

Or let's go really wild: Shazia Mirza or Omid Djalili. Either'd be worth seeing.

Should be me.
I'd make an awesome Doctor.
(, Thu 30 Oct 2008, 10:52, Reply)
Nah
Russell Tovey is too fat.

He's a cracking actor, been in some brilliant stuff, but he's no doctor!

Or perhaps that character from Mitchell and Webb
who always ends buying a large quantity of "refreshing lager beer."

It would be an appropriate successor to Tennant...

EDIT: Just noticed the BBC have listed John Simm as a potential candidate - but surely he's the Master? This could never work.

Noticed they also suggested David Morrisey as well. Maybe Neil Morrisey would do it...or maybe even Morrisey...

hmm
Cherie Lunghi please.

I second The Rik Mayall
He should play every character on every TV show, ever.
(, Thu 30 Oct 2008, 11:17, Reply)
Part of me likes the idea
Of Rik Mayall travelling in the TARDIS with Ade Edmonson as his companion.

Would make for a very interesting storyline if they ever ran into John Barrowman again.

Ainslie Harriott
with Rusty Lee as sidekick. Bring in some Jamaican flavour.

sigh
Woss and Brand.

well its a phonebox, they could go back in time and rescue their careers
(, Thu 30 Oct 2008, 11:35, Reply)
Hmm.
Stephen Mangan, for he is underrated and would be good.
(, Thu 30 Oct 2008, 11:43, Reply)
I reckon
That Ewan McGregor would do it really well. But he never would.

Johnny Lee Miller could be a good shout too. But I think they producers will go left field, and go for a lady. Jennifer Saunders?

EDIT: Seconded on Rik Mayall. He is FTW.

Phil Harding from Time Team
A doctor with a West Country accent would rock.

'Quick, to the Taaaarrrrdis!'

Or maybe Bill Bailey.
(, Thu 30 Oct 2008, 12:24, Reply)
Bill Bailey!
Truly inspired. I vote we start a petition now.

BILL BAILEY FOR DOCTOR WHO!!

With your little pot belly and chuckles, you'd make a pretty cool Dr Who :0)

This can be discussed in more details tomorrow night if you're out.

PATERSON JOSEPH!

That would be awesomely cool!
Alan Johnson for Tardis! 2010!
(, Thu 30 Oct 2008, 13:32, Reply)
There's only one real choice.
Rowan Atkinson.
(, Thu 30 Oct 2008, 13:44, Reply)
^ And he has played the Doctor before
Albeit for Comic Relief (or was it Children in Need?).

Oh I am liking the idea of Bill Bailey becoming the doctor
I also think Alan Davis or Hugh Laurie would be good...

Am a bit traumatised by the loss of David Tennant he is lovely...
(, Thu 30 Oct 2008, 15:07, Reply)
Stephen Fry...

Bill Bailey would be good but unfortunately he's a clit-wringingly shite actor.

So I say - Fry for Doctor! - but I would happily join in with the shouts for Rik Mayall...

(Perhaps now is not the time to admit that I think the new 'Doctor Who's have been crap.)
(, Thu 30 Oct 2008, 15:27, Reply)
Rowan would be a good choice, methinks.

(, Thu 30 Oct 2008, 15:33, Reply)
Stephen Fry
Ohh that would be nice.

What about Joanna Lumley?
(, Thu 30 Oct 2008, 16:09, Reply)
Stephen Hawking

he's giving up his professorship soon and it would be great to see him fight the daleks on equal terms!
(, Thu 30 Oct 2008, 16:33, Reply)
Me
I've already got a penchant for velvet jackets, flappy coats and wing collar shirts. And my very own Dalek army, which will save a few bob on the budget.

Tourette's could be my assistant. Imagine the scene as we step boldly from the TARDIS onto some strange alien landscape...

Me: "Hmm. Not the most hospitable looking place".

Tourette's: "You're not kidding. Where the cunting fuck are we, Doctor?"

Me: "Well, I haven't examined the coordinates properly, but at a guess, I'd say Hull..."

It could work.
