An apology
To amorous, flirting with and the Grammar, im very sorry, I ran over one of your namesake last night.

Poor defenceless fluffy animal, or TB riddled pest, I still feel sad :(

So thats now 7 birds, 4 rabbits, a cat, a Muntjac and a badger.

sorry :(

You bastard!
*mourns death of fourth cousin twice removed*

Larry may not have had many aspirations above mauling people but he was a good friend and badger all the same *bugle plays*

Halfy
You could more than double your score by mowing down a little old lady.
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 9:23, Reply)
Did you take it with you?
I've always wondered what badger would taste like...
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 9:28, Reply)
My mate's brother has written off two cars
20 years apart, and both caused by running over a badger.
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 9:31, Reply)
I bet badger tastes good
*eyes TGB curiously*
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 9:32, Reply)
The same badger?!
Didn't know they lived for 20 years :P

They're Britain's largest indigenous predator, fact fans.
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 9:32, Reply)
well
living near Cambridge its a good chance that the next one will be a fucking cyclist who thinks red lights apply to everyone else!
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 9:34, Reply)
Just to be pedantic
It's 'Muntjac' otherwise known as the 'Barking Deer'.
Did you carve it up for the freezer?
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 10:11, Reply)
Anyone else thinking
that you could've eaten the deer and the pheasants if they weren't too badly damaged?
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 10:27, Reply)
Legally I don't think you're allowed to pick up your own roadkill
Although the person behind you can...

People still do though I reckon!

But do you eat muntjac deer? I thought venison was usually red deer?
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 10:34, Reply)
Muntjac
Is delicious.

And they've got fangs, which is pretty cool!
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 10:35, Reply)
Me, I got the maximum the game laws would allow:
two game wardens, seven hunters and a cow...

Due to the credit

Ah Mr Loon
Tom Lehrer, if I am not much mistaken.
I sing several of his songs (especially Masochism Tango).

Edibility
We have 6 species of deer over here.
Red, Roe, Sika, Fallow, Muntjac & Chinese Water Deer.
They're all yummy.

One of my ferrets nailed his first rabbit on Sunday, had it for tea on Monday. I love free food.

I had an amazing rabbit and Guinness stew the other week
thanks to taking my mate's whippet for a walk :)

Cooked it for about 6-7 hours, it was nom.

*goes off to find air rifle*

I was honing my tracking/stalking skills a couple of weeks back.
and got within about 20 yards of 3 roe deer.
Something spooked them from the other side of the field and they ran towards me.
They ran straight past and all of them tried to leap a fence. Two of them cleared it but the other got his head stuck in the barbed wire.
I instinctively went to dive on it and just as I got there it freed itself, bumped into me whilst letting out a gruff bleat and bounded off.

I'm not sure what I was thinking at the time and don't know whether I was going to throttle it or free it, all a blur 'twas.
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 11:46, Reply)
Anyone shoot air rifles here?
I fancy getting back into it.

Recommendations welcome!

There's all sorts on the market these days - pre-charged and springers.

I don't go for the jazzy sales crap and fancy looking space-age stuff.
I have a good solid, tried & tested, reliable and accurate Weihrauch HW80K (carbine barrel). Probably one of the best springers on the market.
It's known as the 'workhorse' and is some top quality German engineering.

Horse for courses though, everybody has differing opinions.

Crikey
that's a fair old chunk of money.

I was thinking about the 300 quid mark. I've heard good things about Umarex. You heard of them?
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 12:04, Reply)
got
a cockwomble yet?
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 12:15, Reply)
Nah
You can get a Weihrauch for about that money, maybe less.
They're not the most expensive on the market, they're just one of the best.
Lovely beechwood stock and two-stage trigger too.
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 12:17, Reply)
Aha
just found it, for a decent price.

Cheers for your help, will let you know how I get on!
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 12:40, Reply)
Nice
You can't order them online now though, the law's changed.
Get a nice scope for it and you're good to go.
Something like a 3-9x50 should be adequate.
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 12:52, Reply)
Just trying to find a stockist that isn't in Braintree!
I'm planning a visit to my local shop soon, I'll see if they can order it in.
(, Fri 14 Nov 2008, 14:32, Reply)
Damn
just saw this. You've run over my fiance.

*sniffles*

That's ok though...I'll just find another one.
