Well, trauma might be pushing it. "Mild irritation"...
Does anyone know how to (or even if it's possible to) swap the '"' and the '@' on a mac keyboard so that you press SHIFT+2 for inverted commas?

as there isn't an official Mac keyboard layout that does it, like the UK PC keyboard (the Mac variations usually consist of adding umlauts & being QWERTZ etc in foreign countries, I've never seen one with the punctuation swapped)
This page seems to be what you're after though.
Edit: doing something in a manner other than what Apple decree you WILL DO, will result in a midnight raid by Cupertino stormtruppen. You have been warned.

Serves you right for buying a machine for which your haircut or lifestyle does not match.

does it not have something to do with the keyboard language set-up. One is US, the other is UK, cant remember which is which.

is just to install Windows on it.
This will also have the bonus of massively increasing your WiFi signal/range; it appears the shitness of Macs in that department is down to shoddy drivers rather than the aluminium case, as I'd always assumed.

Thanks! Can't really be doing with installing windows, to be honest, but I'm gonna try the stuff on the link.
Cheers!

I'm bored, I was just waiting for all the Mac fanboys to jump in...
I've got used to the layouts being different between the two as I've used both so much, I think it would confuse me more if I changed my Macs to a PC layout!

You won't get any on here. Macs attract people with trendy glasses, cardigans and manbags.

You just described me :)
I couldn't be more PC if I tried.

the UK and US keyboard layouts use Shift-2 for the @ symbol. The only major difference I can see between the two is using Shift-3 for the £ (UK) or # (US) symbols.
It's just what you're used to. I get confused using PCs.
Edit - I don't wear glasses, and own neither a cardigan nor a manbag!

But I also own both. I do however use my iMac keyboard with my PC, now that's a recipe for confusion.
I've never had any problems with range Sam. Which models have you used and found not to be as good?

Any thoughts on this with regards to a normal computer?

Your PC is set up with US Language and Keyboard settings.
Changing them to UK should sort it out. Assuming you're in the UK with a UK keyboard that is :)

Although they did get better with each successive model, the Intel ones still aren't amazing.
I first noticed it when using internet on a Powerbook and a PC laptop side by side, the PC laptop picked up shitloads more networks from neighbours etc. As I said, I'd always put it down to the antennae being inside a metal case, but the real kicker was installing Windows on a MacBook Pro; with the laptop in exactly the same position, a reboot from OSX into Windows will see a lot more networks (assuming they're there to be found, of course) so there must be something software-related affecting it as well.
Edit: further to Noel's reply Ape, it's in Control Panel/Regional and Language Options. Remove the US one as well as adding the UK one and it shouldn't give you that stupid language bar thing.
