I feel weirdly proud...

I had a stupidly long day
And I have to do the same but slightly longer tomorrow :(
Lots of cute farmers there though ;) I may have fixed the raffle so a particularly cute one won :p

Doesn't taste quite the same now I know what wine tastes like.
Although I will possibly try it anyway later to try and avoid opening a second bottle...

Ribena is full of win, but I've recently been converted to Asda's blackcurrant high juice cordial. It tastes even better than the fabled 'bena and is about 1/4 of the price too.

Decided some tunes would lift the mood, and settled on a box set of original rock & roll stuff (y'know, the stuff Elvis and Bill Haley covered and that took white america by storm). Currently listening to Big mama Thornton's version of 'Hound Dog' - it kicks Elvis in the bollocks.

What would u class Leppard as? I was a goth in the late 80s, and they were all lumped under the heading of 'smelly' to me (a grouping which I'm sure doesn't exist anymore, given the impact Nirvana had in making it accessible and mainstreaming that sound to a younger generation)

rock for people (well, girls really) who didn't really like proper rock. It was safe rock. Not to take anything away from them, Hysteria was frickin' awesome, and they still put on a superb show, but they didn't rock in the same way as say, Iron Maiden.
( , Wed 21 Jan 2009, 21:00, Reply)

In the shit-hole town I grew up in towards the late 80's, there was one place that didn't play Rick-Cunting-Astley all night in the 80's - The Cherry Tree. This was basically a small club next door to a pub (y'know, the kind that had offers on Mild during the day in order to get the old drunks in), which had an 'Indie' night on one night (when most bands were actually on independant labels), and a 'Rock' night on the following night.
Specific group of people went to these nights, and fuck me, never the twain met. On the rare occasions that they did meet, it was a coin-toss to say who was looking at who with a greater lack of comprehension.
Still, despite being a goth (and therefore an 'Indie' kid), I went to Rock Night and threw meself around a few times - got introduced to 'Rock & Roll' by teh Zep one night, so it couldn't have been all bad.

To the indie stylings of The Bastard Fairies, I have successfully conquered Europe.
Now I am going to attempt some poker.

I'm in the midst of the first stage of making my mixtape. I'm shortlisting tracks and I've whittled it down to about 3000 I want to share with all you lovely people, so the next job is shortlisting the shortlist. It may have to be a series of loosely themed mixes at this rate.
I'm working on the 'drop some acid and listen to this' mix, the first two tracks are blinding. I'm well indecisive when it comes to this sort of thing though, it will take me ages...
Just had rainbow trout, it was extremely nom!

Kaol is making comics, and I beleive that Light in chains is either losing or winning at online poker..... 3000 tracks eh? Hmmm. That's a lot of tracks

I never listen to the radio so I have no idea if "Great Northern" are a well-known mainstream band or a 30 people in a pub band. Anyone?
( , Wed 21 Jan 2009, 22:06, Reply)

According to Winamp, I have enough music to play for about 15 months, so even 3000 would be a substantial whittling down...
It probably won't be til Friday, but I shall endeavour to complete this gift for all (5 of) the psychedelia fans who post on here!
Never heard of em Light in Chains, although I only listen to the odd bit of Radio 1 when forced to at work (I am trying to ban it in the office but not having much success), what sort of band are they? Googling 'Great Northern' isn't really getting me anywhere
Edit: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Northern_(band) ?
Must be fairly reasonably well known by the looks of that - I know 30 Seconds to Mars anyway, although I didn't particularly rate them.
( , Wed 21 Jan 2009, 22:07, Reply)

Sucked at both. Best I stop for now and concentrate on my mixtape.
( , Wed 21 Jan 2009, 22:08, Reply)

My iTunes (yes, boo, hiss, I know) says I've got 15652 songs. Hmmm...
What worries me is that I've got about 300 CDs I've not put on yet...
EDIT: Which is 42.7 days, apparently.
( , Wed 21 Jan 2009, 22:10, Reply)

Since that's what I play most of my music off, and I don't listen to some of the CD stuff enough. It's an ongoing project though.
Then I want to rip all my vinyl, although that will be time consuming as it has to be done in real time! A fair amount of it is duplicates, but for most of it I'd much rather listen to the vinyl mix than the CD remaster (aka massacre in most cases) I've got as mp3 on my computer.
( , Wed 21 Jan 2009, 22:14, Reply)

I don't have vinyl, but ripping CDs... Too... Lazy...
Got 'em all in my DJ boxes, hardly ever play 'em, waiting to move somewhere I can have 'em on a shelf, and get a CD player.
( , Wed 21 Jan 2009, 22:18, Reply)

Averaging mp3's to 4MB and arbitrarily assigning 20 to a mix CD means I need 80MB hosting to serve it to b3tans.
I don't have 80MB hosting.
( , Wed 21 Jan 2009, 22:23, Reply)

I don't entirely know, but can't you stream stuff via last fm?
( , Wed 21 Jan 2009, 22:24, Reply)

So instead of posting a link to my mp3s, post a link to last.fm for each track?
( , Wed 21 Jan 2009, 22:27, Reply)

Rapidshare, Megaupload, YouSendIt, etc
If it's separate tracks then just rar it to keep them together.
Or (what I'm planning to do), stick them together so it's one continuous gapless mp3, and maybe provide a .cue file so it burns as multiple tracks for those who want to put it on a CD.
( , Wed 21 Jan 2009, 22:29, Reply)

T'would get around the issue.
Might disrupt the flow of it all a bit, but better than nothing!
P.S. I've no idea what last fm is. I heard a couple of mates talking about it...
( , Wed 21 Jan 2009, 22:29, Reply)

It's pretty good actualy. Especialy if you've vaugely heard of someone and want to check them out before buyin an album
( , Wed 21 Jan 2009, 22:34, Reply)

put the mp3s in a directory and either serve that directory via MIrc or upload it to a torrent.
( , Wed 21 Jan 2009, 22:35, Reply)

Those sites I mentioned above will be fine, you don't get amazingly fast download speeds but doesn't really matter when it's only 80MB or so.
I'd rather something downloadable than streamed anyway (assuming it's gonna be half decent :P), then I can keep it!
( , Wed 21 Jan 2009, 22:37, Reply)
