and bah. I've got to go to work in a minute.
Hmpf.

Have a nice weekend on my behalf... :(

I am-
Sorry to be going home tomorrow. Saddies.
Glad that my book is finally started.(Apparently I really needed to get away to make that happen.)
Amazed at how when the writing's good everything else is shite!

But-
Also sitting in a roof garden, looking at London, and enjoying a cigarette. Pretty grand, eh. So no complaints, really.

Of course you are my favorite Aussie!

wow sounds like a mixture
what's your book about?

I wrote a book once - the first of a trilogy. Never really got it finished though - the first one is around 33,000 words long and I can't seem to get my teeth sunk into the next one.

EDIT: and whereabouts are you if you're not home?
(, Sat 28 Feb 2009, 8:22, Reply)
just what the world needs...another memoir
Mainly have published poems, and a few essays, here and there.

But now I'm onto writing what all my writer-friends have always encouraged me to do. The trick is not what to include, but what to leave out! I have had a truly strange life. Should make for a good read, if I can shape it proper. Actually plan to focus on a limited time period.

Art is hard! But worth the attempt. Will do my best. Am fortunate to have good publishing connections. Hoping to do about 100 pages, get an advance, and quit the job. *crosses fingers*

Ning!
Good morning bloodsuckingpussy, tee hee

i'm feeling rather ashamed of myself right now. I wasn't allowed into a club last night because i was too drunk, thereby ruining the night for several people, because i'm here visiting them, and they didn't want to see me walking the streets of bristol.

I have no idea what happened when we got back, but i think i spilled something. Woke up on the couch feeling like a twat.

Then it got even better. I checked my phone to find a text off a friend where she kicked off, because i brought a lads secret out in public while drunk. She'd told me it, so he wasn't happy at all, and kicked off at her. Bit of a cunt really.

Ah well, how are we all this morning?
(, Sat 28 Feb 2009, 8:42, Reply)
Morning AA
Feeling accomplished. Plus I managed to not get twatfaced drunk last night, which is also an achievement.

morning to Light and AA
Light - nice one! And making the newsletter is not bad either.

AA - sounds like a rough night. Your friends will forgive you, unless they are twats. *drunken foolishness* happens. Give yourself a break.

Yeah. Sting and Phil Collins suffered from it.

That is the question. It would mean getting dressed, but on the other hand I generally feel like getting things done once I'm dressed, so that would help prevent me spending the entire day sitting in front of the PC.
(, Sat 28 Feb 2009, 9:32, Reply)
well I heard this from mum
Bono was at this concert for the tennis, can't remember if it was wimbledon or the aussie open, and he stops playing, and starts clapping his hands very slowly.
The crowd is silent as he's clapping his hands, all watching him.
"Everytime I clap my hands, a child in africa dies."
The whole crowd remains silent, except for one bloke who yells out "stop fooking clapping yer han's then you bastard!"

And he gets really angry and throws a tanty.

Doesn't make him any less a wanker, though.
(, Sat 28 Feb 2009, 9:41, Reply)
@TLIC
Even in the article on Snopes, it still infers that Bono is a tool!

He moved his music publishing house from Ireland to the Netherlands, because Ireland scrapped a tax break which prevented arists from paying tax on his royalties!

That's irrelevant to the "clapping hands" story, but they still put it in there!

Endorsed this morning by me AND Kaol. What more do you need to know?

EDIT: Sodding BBC just claimed Barack Obama ran on a platform of immediate withdrawal from Iraq, so some democrats are upset about his 18 months timetable for withdrawal. That's utter fucking bollocks. He never said instant withdrawal, that would be mental, it was always 18 months. Either the BBC is incompetent or are reading out press releases from the Republican party.

And also avoiding jobs. My room needs cleaning, my washing needs doing, and jobs need applying for, but instead I'm constructing a playlist of good love songs.... I'm king of procrastination, and will be claiming my throne and crown, just as soon as I've finished some other stuff.

I've been uploading songs to my iPhone as a means of procrastination. My mp3s are scattered across numerous DVDs and hard-drives and hard-drive partition-backups.
(, Sat 28 Feb 2009, 16:39, Reply)
Iphone eh?
Are those things any good? Musical procrastination is by far the best procrastination. You get a feeling of satisfaction like you've completed something when in actual fact you've done very little
(, Sat 28 Feb 2009, 16:44, Reply)
They're good if you can afford them
They're pretty handy - especially the combined GPS and Google-maps. I also like being able to download a multitude of apps and if you're a programmer, you can even make your own.

However, the iPhone falls short when it comes to text-messaging. You don't get any message-recieved confirmations and you don't know if your text will spill over into a second SMS-message. The lack of cut-and-paste can be a pain (although you can get this in hacked versions of the iPhone firmware). The keyboard can be cumbersome to use. There's a few more niggles, but on the whole, I like my iPhone.
(, Sat 28 Feb 2009, 16:57, Reply)
Hmm.
That might be a problem for me - I tend to send a lot of texts... Though the MP3 function would be handy
(, Sat 28 Feb 2009, 17:03, Reply)
Afternoon all
I have been looking at switching to Windows Media Player instead of Winamp for playing music on my PC since it lets me set up playlists like "4 or 5 star mp3s that haven't been played in the last 7 days" and stuff. But it means rating everything.

I mean, if it wasn't a 4 or 5 star track I'd have deleted it.
(, Sat 28 Feb 2009, 17:03, Reply)
Yeah, Windows MP is annoying with the ratings system
Gets on my nerves to be honest - apart from anything else some music I might rate differently given my mood or whatever. Incidentaly taking about music - anyone heard of Concrete Blonde or Neutral Milk Hotel? I'm massively getting into them at the moment - they're fantastic! Learnt about them through that lastfm site thing - anyone else use lastfm?
(, Sat 28 Feb 2009, 17:24, Reply)
Neutral Milk Hotel
I've "liked" for ages. I randomly got in download The King of Carrot Flowers and thought it really interesting, and ended up getting a bunch of other stuff.

EDIT: My favourite track is probably My Dream Girl Don't Exist
(, Sat 28 Feb 2009, 17:40, Reply)
.
@Fredz

An iPhone basically includes all the functionality of an iPod (I even think the docking interface is the same so you can dock it with any iPod compatible device). It can even play music-videos as well. Also, just playing mp3s has little effect on battery-usage.

O2 let you send unlimited free texts if you spend £30 on top-up (although I only found out too late that you have to activate the free texts before you get them). Another annoying thing is that if you go abroad, they charge extortionate rates for data-traffic (£3 per MB in EU and £6 outside EU, so Google Maps won't be of much use), but thankfully, if you can find a WiFi, you can skip these charges.

@TLiC: Have you checked to see if there's a plugin for WinAmp that can do that?

@Fredz: If the rating-system could be expanded to include separate ratings for whatever mood you're in, that would be handy.
(, Sat 28 Feb 2009, 17:41, Reply)
I'm off down t'chippie
back in a bit.
(, Sat 28 Feb 2009, 17:46, Reply)
Hmmmm....
The lack of battery drain would be handy - my current mp3 phone thing holds about 100 songs and drains the battery very fast... The free text thing sounds handy, as does the wifi thingie - though to be honest I've never realy used the internets on my phone. Maybe windows media player could have a sort of Voigt Kompf style iris reader and such to judge your mood? Either that or you could always just write a programme that gives certain songs an extra star, or removes a star given on their genre ect when you imput what mood you're in.
(, Sat 28 Feb 2009, 17:46, Reply)
iPhone battery drain
Playing mp3s does not have much of an effect, but browsing t3h Intertubez and using Google Maps noms the batteries like Pacman on speed. Fortunately, the iPhone comes with a cable that lets you recharge using a USB port as well as a mains charger.
