Well thought I'd throw in MGMT
Think they could be onto great things.

Quite upbeat, big sounding, quite summerish, electronica/indie type. I'm sure you'll be familiar with some of the songs already through TV programs and adverts and suchlike.

I'd listen to some Cast
or any other Scouse band. Best of the north west by far.

It depends
I'm really into female vocalists at the moment, so I'm liking The Bastard Fairies and The Dresden Dolls.

Dresden Dolls are all win
I'm quite partial to Sirenia at the minute. Similar vein to Nightwish but not as operatic.

I've been listening to Broken Family Band today, and Darkest Hour as I just got my ticket to see them with Bleeding Through in May.

Oh, and Monster Magnet!

Hmmm. Female vocalists are good.
I've been listening to Concrete Blonde for a bit now - their cover of "everybody knows" is damn good. It realy depends on what sort of thing you want though, and what you like.

To answer seriously
(yes, yes, Manc bands are better) my favourite album of the last year I think is Secret Soundz by The Pictish Trail. Beautiful mix of electro-pop, minimalistic acoustic guitars and cracking vocals.

I am seriously into Joe Bonamassa
He is one of the best blues guitarists around - so good that when he was 11 he opened for BB King.
Saw him (again) last week at his first major concert and blew me away!

Simple
Richard Cheese - he is god. And also very funny. The end.

Joe Bonamassa is shithot if you like a modern take on the blues
Sloe Gin is a fucking great album

I'm liking the Last Shadow Puppets (singer from Arctic Monkeys) at the moment.

Monster Magnet are always good too ;-)

Sloe Gin is ace
We just got Ballad of John Henry last week and it's amazing.
I am also loving the Zac Brown Band at the moment, saw them on tour last year as a lead-in for Alan Jackson and they've suddenly exploded on the country music scene (which I'm not really into).

Pete 'waste of skin' docherty
has talent, but he pissed it all up the wall that's why he is a cunt.

KMFDM
Specifically, WWIII, Blitz and Money. Their other albums are fair-to-shite.
