Bought me an iPod (which I really don't want)with a week's wages. Had said iPod engraved with emo song lyrics.

At what point is it appropriate to tell him to fuck off get a restraining order?

Cut him out of your life if you have to.

Get a new sim card. Get your current contacts transferred over and delete his. Destroy old sim card. Tell everyone you have on your contacts list that they are not under any circumstances to give out your new number.

It sounds harsh I know but if he is making you this upset after you have repeatedly told him to fuck right off then you need to do something, anything to get a bit of space.

Keep a record
of any and all contact you have with him, anything that makes you feel uncomfortable and inform the police. If you don't want them to take action, they won't, but they'll be aware you're having trouble and will be more helpful in the future if you need them.

getting a brief to write you a letter stating that if he does not 'fuck off' then you'll be seeking a restraining order.

I think that they charge a fee for such things but it'll put the fear of God up him. That and cut him and his expendable penis out of your life.

I've got to agree, cut off all contact, change sims and tell people not to give out your new number, also, let people you live with know what's happening. If they know they might spot some of his mental machinations before they happen so to speak. The solicitors letter sounds like a great idea too, and any gifts that he sends you should be sent back if at all possible.
