Today
I'm going to bitch about my work, and how they don't seem to understand that they can't keep adding extra tasks to my job.

On my contract, I am employed as an Internal Liason Manager. Means fuck all really, I speak to some customers, check some deliveries, but mostly run personalisation data off, and check it before it runs onto cards.

However, that's what is supposed to happen. So can someone please explain to me why I am currently running 3 servers, organising backup software, doing data entry, scanning hundreds of forms, taking over the casino running entirely (I now deal with them more than their own sales manager) and training other people to use a system that I learnt at the same time they did.

Also, last night I had to stay til about 7, working on a code list so we can import stock into this new system. I come in this morning, and ask my manager who I need to organise the overtime with? He tells me that I'm not getting any extra money, because all I did was stay behind after work. Then why the fuck did you call it overtime? You useless fuck!

ARGH!

Go home early today
If the bastards won't pay it, that's time in lieu.

Not so fast
If his contract says, as mine does, that he's not entitled to overtime pay or time off in lieu there isn't a great deal he can do here.

Fair enough then
My contract does say that luckily I can take time in lieu (I have a nice agency). Guess I got used to it.

Just stop doing everything
that isn't in your job description, sounds like it would be better to pay you more than try and get someone else in

Nah
Look for other jobs that would involve the sorts of things you're doing now (might have to find a few to cover everything), tell your boss about the discrepancy in pay and ask for a review.

It's much better to do things that way first. If it doesn't work resort to doing only things in your job description.

this is sound advice
suddenly cutting back on what you are doing will only serve to aggravate people and while that is good in priniciple, in reality it doesn't help anyone.

pft fine

it's that or a badger
not much to choose between

Indeed
And actually before you resort to cutting back to doing just what's in your job description I'd start applying for other jobs and using your current boss as a reference but ask companies you're applying to only to contact your boss after an interview. Could be a nice way to kick your boss up the arse. (Credit to CHCB for that idea)

Unfortunately...
My contract doesn't allow for overtime, unless I'm working in a different department. i.e. in the factory.

I don't get time in lieu, which is a bit of a shitter.

As my job has taken chances keeping me on (I'll admit I've made a couple of big fuck ups), I'm always cautious about telling them where to stick the extra work. Don't get me wrong, when I'm not busy, I quite enjoy working on the servers, setting up mailbox limits, autoforwarding, etc. It's a new learning experience for me. But I can't do it all the time, as they want.

I have been looking, but sadly there aren't many jobs around at the moment, and any that are round won't give a second look to someone without a degree. My Java and SQL qualifications mean nothing to them. I just find it amusing that if you put a recent Uni graduate into my job, they'd be lost. Experience is more valuable, I find.

I've decided that I'm going to stay until the new year, at which point I'll request a pay review. If I don't come out of the meeting earning more money, I'm going to throw myself head first into the jobs market. That's not me being selfish, I've been here 3 years, and I do about twice the number of tasks I was employed to.

This might help with the job search

I've found it to be invaluable.
