I was chatting to the missus last night
About my mate who's dad has sadly admitted to alcoholism and is getting some help. The conversation went...

R: Its sad but im glad hes getting some help.
J (Missus): Yeah but YOUR dad drinks alot
R: Yeah... but he doesnt sit in all night drinking he just goes down the pub everynow and then. Every Thursday night he has a business meeting with his business partners and then goes down the pub with his mates.
J: EVERY THURSDAY?
R: Yes
J: I feel sorry for your mum. I'd never let my husband do that!

I was under the impression that this was kinda the way life is, going down the pub with the lads on occasions for a pint, getting away from the wife and kids for a bit.

Do I run for the hills or make her understand about the man/pub/mates relationship?

Weird woman.
If he went down every night, I'd understand her concerns, but complaining about once a week?

How very odd...

Absolutely
before it goes too far. Otherwise you'll go for weeks and weeks without any proper social life, and then when there finally is some sort of special night out that she wouldn't go to, you'll find you end up having to ask for permission, you feel guilty for going, you watch the clock all night because she'll ask what time you're going to be back and she'll sulk if you're late. You generally have a shit night.

Ask me how I know.

I'd point out that having at least one evening apart each week is practically vital for a healthy relationship
if my other half wanted to stop me going to band practice or something on a thursday night then I'd tell her in great detail where she could shove it.

Hmmm
It's not just a man/pub/mates relationship. A lot of people (women included) like to go to the pub at least once a week for a little natter and a beverage. I don't think you're weird of you DON'T do that, but I wouldn't say it suggested impending alcoholism/ruin.

Get her addicted to heroin,
then act all high and mighty.

I'd go fucking nuts.
So would he.

I once heard a local-news reader on tv
report that "the man threatened the shopkeeper with a machete".

Except she pronounced it as "Makeet"

You're going to learn about people like ME! It's been a while since I last made a word salad.

Word Salad
sounds like a daytime TV quiz show.

I'd kick her right in the mimsy.

(, Wed 5 Aug 2009, 12:56, Reply)
As long as you would give her the chance of getting away from the husband and kids for a bit.
Then I see no problem.
(, Wed 5 Aug 2009, 13:02, Reply)
^ this
Otherwise you'll go stir-crazy, then at some point she'll be invited to a girls' night out and there'll be a row about how she never goes out. Possessive women can be like that.

Not my missus though, we cleared that up years ago and now she's just very rude.
(, Wed 5 Aug 2009, 13:07, Reply)
I can't understand relationships like these
"I'd never let my husband do that!"

What spend a single evening (per week) with some friends!? That surely shows a huge lack of trust and respect? My g/f would get a punch in the eye socket for that!

Then again perhaps your other half isn't being serious...
(, Wed 5 Aug 2009, 13:26, Reply)
exactly!
who the fuck does she think she is saying what she will "let" you do?

Did you sign over your autonomy in order to gain entry to her gowl?

fuck that!

Weird
and controlling and possessive and insecure. I'm sure it will just work itself in due course. Just do nothing at all, it'll be fine. Its like cancer that way, harmless if just left alone.

Dont listen to me though.
