After reading this : www.abd.org.uk/police_letter.htm I'm curious as to the amount of people that have been done for speeding on here and the general opinion thereof.
Personally, I feel as long as you don't act the twat then going above the speed limit is acceptable. Leave enough distance, change lanes with plenty of notice, it's not rocket science. Studies have also shown that people who drive in the 85th percentile (about 80-85mph) are less likely to have accidents.
(Source is in the article).
The one thing I am afraid of is being pulled on the motorway by an unmarked vehicle, have any of you been pulled? Were you let off?
Discuss! (Also, have any of you been pulled on the motorway? Were you let off?

used to work in sales, ie on the road every day, as a result she taught me how to get 'through' traffic. the glasgow m8 townhead interchange is the busiest in europe FACT! you can simply sit in it and process slowly or read the lanes and by (admittedly being somewhat aggressive) but not being a complete prick, wipe 30 - 40 mins off your journey time just by knowing the lanes and when to change and what you can get away with - ie using a slip road to get the jump etc - that guy 3 cars in front trying to get into a lane is the one who will subsequently let you in, when you pull alongside, guilt basically. I move with the flow of traffic and never go over 95 even on an empty motorway (instant ban) as a result i have never had a bump on the motorway...
however - over the last decade i have driven RWD sportscars (mainly honda s2000’s) and i live in the sticks so i tend to be rapid on the largely empty Scottish country roads that I know well. very rapid, every single day. as a result my few rare 'moments' have generally resulted in a some major offs, (according to insurers woman contrary to opinion in fact have more accidents but they tend to be small ones – men bin the fucker) my offs have been - one simply my error, one RWD + black ice, one speed plus a huge slick of mud on the road (farmers are bastards). I should add no one else involved in any of these.
so - you can drive safely at speeds of 85+ on the motorway in traffic very safely if you are alert, observant and skilled
however if you push it to the limit regularly on winding B roads with difficult corners in varying conditions - invariably you will run out of luck at some point. this is why Scotland, Iceland and the Scandinavian regions all produce world class rally drivers - the conditions are never the same and the roads are a real challenge.
(in my mind there is no point having a sports car and tootling around town, sounds arsey but if you're not prepared to lose it you shouldn’t use it).
But in answer to your question one of the reps in my wife’s company was killed on the motorway so her company panicked - consulted their lawyers and as a result put all their guys on a ‘defensive driving course’ basically a course run by ex traffic plod who know all the tricks.
My wife was told bluntly – if you are are female and are stopped on the motorway – turn on the waterworks, most traffic cops are blokes and they can't handle that crap – so unless you have caused damage or been a danger to others they will tend to let you off.
Sucks doesn’t it

but i had to slow down to 50 for all the average speed cameras revenue traps - probably the periods where i was least focussed on the traffic and most distracted by my speedo
but i still did not go over 100 - not even through the wide sweeping borders run of Mway
6 hours though, you try getting to heathrow, checking in, flying, disembarking then cabbing it to your destitnation somewhere in the scottish central belt in that time - as we say up here - tight as a fat burds shoe!

Due to a postal strike the letter didn't reach me within 14 days of the offence and I wrote a letter pointing out that this was a failure on their part to abide by the terms of the act. They replied that they only had to send it out within 14 days, a lie that even a layman can spot in a reading of the relevant section of the act. There were a couple more letters, me quoting the relevant parts of the act and them basically ignoring it. Eventually I got a letter that basically said, here's your court date: either try it in front of a judge or take the £60/3 points.
I took the penalty - based on what I've heard I might have been able to call their bluff since often they don't turn up to these sorts of hearings and the case is dismissed, but I didn't want to take the chance of standing up in court and arguing a technicality.
Still feel aggrieved though. And I think I might have got flashed again this morning, the bastards.
Both have been on a 4 lane dual carriageway - 2 lanes each side, wide median strip - so why a 40mph limit? To make money.

1st time doing 55mph on a single carriageway A-road driving a 3.5t van. oops. 3points and £30.
2nd time doing an average of 113.9mph over 2.92miles on the motorway riding my bike. 6 points and £250.
3rd time doing an average of 116.4mph on the same stretch of motorway 14 months later. same bike but this time no insurance. 8 points and £450. exceptional hardship (non-earning partner) meant i kept my licence.
i then had to make a choice, either insure my van (now £1600 a year TPFT) or my bike (£1900 TPFT) cos i couldn't afford both. i chose the van, put the bike off the road until enough points had expired to make it affordable to re-insure.
and in the meantime i got on and behaved myself.
yeah, maybe some speed limits are innapropriate (generally in the minds of those who get caught) but they are still the limit.
how much more simple can it be?
stick to the limit or get punished when you get caught.
and when that happens then just take it on the chin for god's sake.
having sympathy for someone when they get points for speeding is as ridiculous as having sympathy for me having a hangover today. i chosed to get pissed last night just like i chose to speed on my bike.
responsibility is not a popular word with some people.

for speeding. The first time I was doing 60 in a 45 zone, but the officer was English and let me off.
The 2nd time was doing the boring ass drive back from the mountains, just as the cop was about to write the ticket there was a crash right by us on the freeway - he just said "it's your lucky day" and got on his bike to deal with the crash
