but who's your favourite stand up, is there a little known comic or venue that you recommend.
Or simply cake or cake?
This being B3ta I suspect the answer is death by cake ingestion.

I have always loved the Izzard... I also love the Bailey! :)

I wanted to like him, I really did. Unfortunately his "comedy" vehicle was possibly the unfunniest thing to hit TV screens since Rushton's Illustrated in the late 1970's.
Repeating a phrase (in this case a 15 minute highly "amusing" ramble about rappers on Top of the Pops) over and over does not make it funny, you smug faced tosspot.

it was a bad format for him. His straight stand up is good and the shows he did with Richard herring were good.

I can see why. It was fucking awful.

and saw a live version of 'Whose line is it anyway?' with unknowns (well, jobbing actors and comedians). I was very close to hysteria - real, full on hysteria - tears pouring down my cheeks, inability to breathe properly and people staring at me. When they asked for suggestions from the audience for a Sherlock Holmes mystery I shouted out, "Sherlock Holmes and the case of the rubber chicken" then almost expired from self-induced hilarity. They did it and I was very close to passing out.
Thank god for my (then) youthful pelvic floor muscles - not even a little bit of pee escaped.

I went to see Bottom 2 live, Eddie Izzard, Ardal O'Hanlon and Ben Elton in the same week. My chuckle muscles haven't been the same since.

but the rest would have finished me off - I'd have been a pool of sweat and pee - even watching Bottom which revolts me and makes me laugh in equal measure!
BTW when you phoned back the other evening we were on the underground.

Ben Elton i can take or leave sometimes but that night he was on form.

I saw a comedian called Sam something on a Monday last comic standing night and he was hilariously funny, but I've completely forgotten his full name so I can't stalk him unfortunately.
I don't suppose anyone else happened to be there? He told jokes about reusing plastic bags to suffocate babies, it was hilarious.
Unfortunately some silly woman who sang folk songs about having the clap won though.

his ugly baby song cracks me up. And he's hot.

'She Gotta Smile' being one of the best.
Might be going to see him in March!

but Sadowitz is the daddy. Yes i know he has his critics, but for sheer venom and accurate hostility, he cannot be beaten.

esp his stuff on John Davidson the Tourrette's chap from Galashiels, utter genius
( , Wed 11 Nov 2009, 14:01, Reply)

away from interviewing 'John', after a dare by none other than Aphex Twin himself, whao had sent me a copy of the John's Not Mad docu, which we had both seen when it was broadcast. I contacted John through the tourettes society and they invited me to meet with John...but i had no reason at all to be interviewing him other than an internet lolz, so i made my excuses and left.
John is a living LEGEND, did you see that follow up docu a few months back...funny as fuck, and it appeared as though he was now using his 'tourettes' to shout any abuse he felt like. best line by far was johns fellow sufferer and friend shouting at a female interviewer
"YOUR DUGS GOT TITS"
and john replies
"GHEE THEM A SOOK"
( , Wed 11 Nov 2009, 14:25, Reply)

That second documentary was fucking MAGIC. The dog/tits one was good - but what had me literally weeping with laughter was 'CHOPPER'S DYED HIS PUBES GINGER'.
Superb, utterly superb.

i totally forgot about that bit, did Chopper then not accuse John of watching gay porno's at that point? No, I think John was then saying something about 'falling in love with someone', to which Chopper piped up, 'Aye, another gay man".... Never a dull moment with those two, ah tell ye.
i had ideas of sampling the best bits and mashing them into some sort of breakcore mash-up....maybe one day :)

Lucy Porter ¬_¬
Reg D. Hunter was the last stand-up to have me in proper hysterics. I loved his routine on Fritzl. Shockingly enough I thought a couple of Stewart Lee's comedy vehicle were alright but on the whole it ended very badly.
For little known comics I'd recommend going back and checking out some of Jasper Carrot's early routines (70s/80s). He was a good story-based comedian.

They were hysterically brilliant, much like Connolly's original storytelling style. Much better than what he does now.
( , Wed 11 Nov 2009, 13:34, Reply)

I *hate* that programme because it encourages people to cheat and lie. Nasty, nasty show.
( , Wed 11 Nov 2009, 13:39, Reply)

Well done. You taught your kids to fuck over strangers and try to rationalise your behaviour afterwards. Scum etc.
( , Wed 11 Nov 2009, 13:47, Reply)

And then they all look uncomfortable while Jasper Carrott says goodbye.
Horrible programme.

My favourite comedian is still Eddie Izzard.
But I love Stephen Lynch, he makes me laugh like a tosser. I'm a huge Ross Noble fan (and can be heard on his latest DVD, woo!).
As for little known, I'm not sure. But there is a comedian called Jason Rouse, who I thought was fantastic!
Here he is!
( , Wed 11 Nov 2009, 13:43, Reply)

Watching it tonight.
When can you be heard?
( , Wed 11 Nov 2009, 13:49, Reply)

He talks about Jesus and Easter, and how he is better than Jesus, because he doesn't have an inflatable.
I shout out about how it looks like Jesus 'at the end', and ended up getting a laugh and a clap.
It was a brilliant show!

I'll keep an eye (ear?) out.
Went to see his West End run of 'Things' last month. Came out with smile-induced face ache.
The man's a legend.

the majority of comedians referred to in this thread are on my face punch list.
I'm friends with Andy Zaltzman who's fucking funny, but I'd like to draw all your attentions to one of my oldest mates Paul McCaffrey, who's won various competitions and is tipped for great things.
( , Wed 11 Nov 2009, 13:57, Reply)

he holds some strange wobbly-eyed attraction for me. I enjoyed his show very much - not belly laugh funny but quite amusing and would watch again.
And even stranger...would, definitely.
