Morning
I'm feeling chipper this morning despite still having a cough and dreaming that half of my car had gone missing and the rest had become invisible.

What's up?

edit: just remembered I watched yet another programme last night that mentioned Flim-flam. This was the latest episode of How I met your mother

I'm KNACKERED
I went to a friend's house for dinner and the cunt didn't serve the meal til 11 o-fucking-clock. It was delicious (stuffed aubergines with a spicy lamb and apricot filling and a halloumi salad) but i didn't get home til half 1. I nodded off on the tube this morning and overshot my stop. Consequently I'm even grumpier than usual today so i shall be making a concerted effort not to be a total cunt. I may well fail dismally in this endeavour.

that sounds delicious
halloumi is amazing stuff. am getting a proper cast iron griddle pan for christmas so I'll be able to cook it nicely without having the bbq fired up.

that's shitty though, it'd put me in a proper bad mood if I missed my stop.

I'm having halloumi for my dinner tonight with roast veg.
If I can get home : (

My father gave me a double-sized iron griddle
that covers two rings on the hob - one of the best gifts I've ever received. Things like kebabs, steaks and chops etc are immeasurably improved.
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 9:29, Reply)
do kebabs cook nicely on them?
I'd been wondering if they would, particularly because my grill is fucking shit
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 9:33, Reply)
Pretty much anything that you'd put under the grill
is better on the griddle. I've done kebabs on there dozens of times and they're superb. Courgettes thinly sliced lengthways and brushed with oil are amazing too, as is halloumi.

awesome
think I'm getting a square pan, so might need to invest in some of the bendy kebab skewers so I can cram plenty of meat on it.

When we move
a good quality griddle pan is definitely on my list.
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 9:34, Reply)
I must get a griddle
FOR STEAK ROCKS MY WORLD!

But seriously, I love a good steak. At the moment I use a heavy bottomed frying pan, but it doesnt do the meat justice.
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 9:36, Reply)
you get those proper griddle stripes on the meat
so they look marvellous as well as tasting great.

*drools*
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 9:42, Reply)
That's exactly what I want (the stripes)
for the first 30 years of my life, I didnt really like red meat. Now just the thought of it makes me feel ravenous.

I watched the start of "Young butcher of the year" because they had to butcher half a side of beef in 45 mins, it looked delicious!

I've posted this before
but if you like steak this stuff will blow your mind:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimichurri

That and a bottle of good Argentinian Malbec and you're away.
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 9:48, Reply)
i'll have to give that a go
I like a nice sauce with my steak (stilton or diane).

I also have the food horn!

This place is only a minute's walk from my house

Far and away the best steaks I've ever had. That's where I first had chimichurri. Fuck me I think I may have to go there for dinner.

I'm having Steak Diane for tea tonight.
Probably with creamed spinach. Mmm.
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 10:21, Reply)
Just thinking about a fat juicy steak
has given me the food-horn, wholly inapproriate at 9:45am.
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 9:46, Reply)
i was tempted to buy a smoker
pretty modest affair, metal basin with lid, meat sits on a trivet with woodchips below which is in turn heated from the outside by 2 small meths burners. Only about £50, the idea of catching fish, and having them filleted and smoked within 15 minutes sounds very appealing.

Smoked hams, smoked cheese perhaps, smoked chops and probably just about anything you could fit in it.
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 10:02, Reply)
Brilliant idea
If I had the room for one I'd get one in a shot. I cannot think of a savoury foodstuff that isn't (edit, duh) improved by smoking it. My boss smokes duck and swears it's fucking magic.
