Halp!
Now as you all know my computer skillz amount to fixing stuff by turning the puter off and on again, (which has usually solved all my problems so far, and I wouldn't recognize a gigabyte if it came up to me and slapped my face. I have been told that I can upgrade the office puter as it's very slow. I know the internet and security can do this, but I have no idea what to upgrade too. What do I ask the nice Computer man to give me.

I have the usual office packages on here plus Sage, Kaspersky security and internet.

Also being able to go on /links and watch the funny kitten videos at work would be lovely.

Ask him to give you one

That would be my second request after the computer business has been dealt with.

You should great him
wearing a silk bathrobe, and then while he's under the desk let it "accidentally" slip open.

You've done this before haven't you?

Im confused.
Upgrading the computer by putting newer software on will probably make it slower as newer software makes greater demands on the computer.

You want to be upgrading the hardware. More RAM would give the most noticeable boost but you might be better off buying a new PC depending on how old it is.

Also wiping it and reinstalling windows will speed things up for a bit until it gets clogged up again.

I'm talking about a whole new hard drive and not boosting what I already have.

The post below says it all
Get a budget and spunk out on the best you can afford.

p.s. a hard drive is but one component. Not the computer ;)

Ahah!
I shall go into the shop and say young man, I have £400 (or whatever) to spunk on the best computer you can give me.
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 10:48, Reply)
I'll spunk on a computer for £400

(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 10:56, Reply)
Yup
I'd spunk on Al for 50p

for what you want, its very easy
1.Go into a computer shop.
2. Say "I'd like to buy a computer please, and I want to spend £xxx.
3. Pay the monkey
4. Go home and plug it in etc.

'puters are very easy to buy now days. A standard one will let you watch kitten porn 'til you get bored.

Simples

Sinclair Spectrum +3
You can play Daley Thompson's Decathlon on it, and our Ann Marie has a program you can type in to make Hangman come up.

If you don't need a monitor, go for that!

I'm sure you know someone who could get you a *ahem* cheap copy of Windows.
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 12:58, Reply)
Get a new PC and put the old hard drive in as the master
No need to buy a new copy of windows then.

.
I've never actually hit the problem, but I've heard that any major changes within the PC (i.e. new motherboard or processor) usually necessitate a fresh install of Windows.
(, Wed 25 Nov 2009, 13:35, Reply)
Yeah, this just won't work.
I mean it may work but not work properly. Major hardware changes will need a fresh install
