Happy New Year from the Legless household . . .
and here's some new year's cake (Vasilopita) - made by me - for everyone!!!

(see reply for image of said cake)

A little flat, but it tastes just like my Mum's version . . .

(In almonds, the decoration is: XP - Xronia Polla - 2010)

The cake . . .

Xronia Polla!
Looks lovely ;)

thank you muchly . . .
it's a tricky cake to get right - yeast based, needing three sittings to rise - and therefore close to 5 hours to make!

. . . and whisking egg whites by hand is a bugger of a job . . .

Blimey
I'm not too good with cakes, me.

Well, my Mum likes to think her daughter cannot cook . . .
Occasionally I like to surprise her . . . I don't always have lots of time to make the culinary delights she's famous for . . .
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 11:39, Reply)
I can't cook all the basics like my mum
(You know, roast dinner for 20 people, scones, spongecakes etc) but she gets very impressed when I make interesting sauces from scratch. Oh, and desserts. They impress her.

Well done!

*Bows*
I was rather chuffed I managed to do it . . . first attempt and all that.

WHY IS MY LANDLADY HOOVERING?

(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 11:30, Reply)
Because it's January 1st and she wants the place spick and span.
Silly.

I have to go to town. I really do. I've got someone coming for food this evening and I'm out of onion.

He can use the cat's litter
It'll be fine.
I'm just having some tea and toast for now, so tell him God speed.
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 11:46, Reply)
I'm glad you both liked them :)
I wasn't sure the images would transfer well . . . but they seemed to work - Legless was epsecially impressed with the hot water trickery . . .
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 11:38, Reply)
'Tis rather excellent.
Our own personalised b3ta mugs. I especially liked the "nomnomnomnomnom" under the chips and gravy pic on Tourette's mug.
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 11:41, Reply)
Cath's was more difficult . . .
I wanted some Macc Lad imagery, but couldn't find some that incorporated beer, chips and gravy, so I cut and pasted bits and pieces together.
Daleks were easy to find on teh internet - thankfully.

But you're both very welcome - a late wedding present :)

Happy new year to you!!
Cake looks lovely....if only I wasn't so hungover.

(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 11:54, Reply)
Happy new year everyone.
I've been keeping my end up with the drinking in the Davros household and not feeling too shabby in the mornings. I'm very proud of myself.

Lovely cake Mrs L. I can whip up some scones and biscuits and that's about my lot.
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 11:55, Reply)
I need to learn scones, cakes...
and how to cook for a lot of people without panicking.
Proudest day of my life was a giant fry-up for 5 people. How pathetic!
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:00, Reply)
I'm not good cooking for big groups unless it's something easy like spag bol.
Buffet food FTW!
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:04, Reply)
Agreed!
Chips and dips? :D
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:06, Reply)
I just raid the Marks and Spencer buffet selection and no-one complains.
I make up for the lack of home cooking with my awesome hostessing skills.
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:07, Reply)
Haha ditto!

(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:08, Reply)
Oh yeah, I could make spagbol and chilli to feed an army haha
But when you see people doing dinner parties and there are all these fiddly components (or even the timing of a fry-up really) you think "BLIMEY!"
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:07, Reply)
Yer just get the lazy bastards t o bring their own food
HEHE, you can provide the awesome drink or just nice smiles then ya sorted :D.
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:10, Reply)
Nah
Thats awesome, It can be hard work.
I don't really cook thats what my bf does :D I'm rubbish.
But i can do a great roast dinner :)
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:05, Reply)
A fry-up's still a good thing to be able to prepare . . .
Legless cooks almost every night here - else we'd be eating at stupid o'clock most nights :)

Edit: Thank you BGB :)
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:21, Reply)
Another bonus for finger food is very little washing up.
Davros is just starting to tackle the aftermath of cooking fondue the night before. I'm hanging around like a spare part waiting to do something helpful and Tourettes is conked out on the sofa because she was up till 5am playing in the snow with Mildew.
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:29, Reply)
I hope mildew is a critter
and not some actual fungus.

But I like seeing people enjoy food I've made.
*feeder*
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:33, Reply)
Mildew is their spakka dog and is one of the few large dogs I've ever took a shine to.
Yeah it is nice to see people enjoy the food you make, even if it's just a bacon sarnie in the morning.
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:37, Reply)
Trollop

(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:38, Reply)
Haha!
Not heard that word in a long time.
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:49, Reply)
Sure ;)

(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:56, Reply)
Nearly done
Thank fuck. I've never seen so much melted cheese.
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:54, Reply)
BGB's duvet cover?

(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:56, Reply)
She's a terribly messy eater.

(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 13:17, Reply)
Man, I really want a fryup now.
And I've nothing in :(

Which means putting clothes on and finding an open shop. Boo!
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 12:59, Reply)
All the bloody shops are open
You lazy naked bastard
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 13:04, Reply)
I compromised
I'm having a couple of savoury snack eggs with my cheese sandwich.
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 13:14, Reply)
That sounds exactly like a fry up
Yes...
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 13:27, Reply)
