I watched Predator this morning
What testosterone-driven 80's classics have you revisited lately?
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:26, 97 replies, latest was 16 years ago)
Shite, isn't it?

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:27, Reply)
HOW DARE YOU

No
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:29, Reply)
It's pretty shit.

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:31, Reply)
It's not
it's brilliant
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:33, Reply)
The second one is 10 times better and about 100 times less gay.
/I have a feeling that Darth Foxtrot has me on ignore.
edit: obviously not.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:35, Reply)
Gay? Predator?
What on earth could be gay about several large, oiled, muscular men playing hide and seek in a tropical jungle? I think you're looking for shirting where clearly none exists
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:37, Reply)
It's really, really not
I watched Predator 2 just last week, and I was quite dissapointed. Even Gary Busey was insufficient to raise it up to anywhere close to the first one.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:38, Reply)
I'm with Al on this one
The only bit I really liked about Predator 2 was the in-joke of having an Alien skull mounted on the wall of the ship. Less funny now that two films have completely upgefucked that once-tantalising face-off
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:39, Reply)
more tits though.

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:47, Reply)
Aha! Your criteria are revealed!
Is your favourite film Beneath the Valley of the Ultra Vixens, by any chance?
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:47, Reply)
It's certainly one of mine
Russ Meyer 'ftw', as they say on the internet.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:43, Reply)
I love him
My ex ran off with Up but I still have Faster Pussycat.
Edit: What about Jess Franco?
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:48, Reply)
totally with you
predator 2 is far superior
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:58, Reply)
That depends on your point of view
If you're after subtle acting and metaphor, then you're in the wrong decade
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:35, Reply)
I haven't watched any 80's movies lately
I did watch New Moon last night, however.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:33, Reply)
Did you get all moist and rub one out?

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:34, Reply)
not until later

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:36, Reply)
Please tell me it's better than I expect
Cos I'm sure I'll have to watch it when Ms Foxtrot gets it on Lovefilm
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:36, Reply)
800% better than Twilight
I don't think I've ever been more disappointed in a film as I was with Twilight.

Even my Dad said New Moon was way better. He'd know, my Mum made him watch it about a thousand times.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:40, Reply)
Are you a proper Twihard?
Most people I know who love the books disliked the first film. I didn't mind it because I spent most of the book wondering whether there has ever been a literary character so painfully incapable of piecing together obvious clues as Bella Swan. The film cut a lot of that out!
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:42, Reply)
The fact you just used the word
"twihard" means I am going to have to put you on ignore.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:48, Reply)
I consider it to be a term of abuse if that helps

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:51, Reply)
What would make one a proper twihard?
I read the book too long ago to really comment on that. For me the books became an obsession, I had to read them, every spare waking second I had to read them. But as soon as I put them down I put them down, I haven't read them since and I probably won't again.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:49, Reply)
You're not a Twihard
By virtue of your ability to accept that the books aren't actually the very centre of the universe

Thank fuck
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:50, Reply)
Other than the books, and the Twilight dvd, I own no form of Twilight paraphernalia.
I'm not on a 'team' and in fact I think the trailer for the third movie looks really fucking shit and I can't believe they replaced the original actress that played Victoria. But I'm not making tweets and vlogs about it.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:56, Reply)
I didn't even know they had replaced her
There are teams?
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:59, Reply)
team edward or team jacob, uh duh

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:03, Reply)
Jumping Jesus on a pogo stick
That's appalling
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:21, Reply)
the books are genuinely appalling
the movie was alright. But the books are actually mindless
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:46, Reply)
I watched The Rocky Horrow Show at the weekend.
In bed, drunk and singing loudly.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:38, Reply)

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:44, Reply)
Oh - sorry about all that 'slut' nonsense then.

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:03, Reply)
That's a 70s movie
But better than most 80s film tripe.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:32, Reply)
Beverley Hills Cop 2.
Not that testosteroney but a classic with kick-ass 80s soundtrack.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:42, Reply)
And it's got Bridgitte Neilson in it
she's a funny one. I liked BHC2, but 3 was fucking awful.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:44, Reply)
I watched Top Gun recently
I enjoyed the volleyball scene even more than I did when I was youthful, although obviously I now have to ignore the homoeroticism that I wasn't aware of in my innocence.

"You can be my wingman any time."

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:05, Reply)
despite being massively gay
it is still a great film
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:12, Reply)
if you are a massive 'gayer'.

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:16, Reply)
you like it then?

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:19, Reply)
Don't mug me, bitch.
Edit - why did you scream three times today?

How about "maimer of planets"

It gives us a bit of hope.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:45, Reply)
Not as poetic or historically significant.

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:43, Reply)
it's all about Tron.
Or for sheer that film was better than expectedness, Adventures in Babysitting. Sounds shit, actually good*

*Badger's idea of good is probably quite shit by normal standards
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:47, Reply)
That sounds like it would make a wikced porn film
but is probably much less exciting than I'm imagining
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:48, Reply)
I should really have a Jeff Bridges retrospective soon.

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:50, Reply)
Have you not got over that yet?

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:51, Reply)

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:52, Reply)
Adventures in Babysitting is brilliant.
Haven't seen that in years.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:59, Reply)
Whenever they showed that on ITV Granada
they billed it as 'A Night On The Town'.
Confusing.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:00, Reply)
Oh yeah
I think it did have a different name here to America. Why do film people do that?
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:03, Reply)
I don't know.
But it made it sound shit.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:06, Reply)
Because of the different language
Note the madness of George III was changed to King George because the merkins wondererd what happend to the first two movies.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:18, Reply)
Let's not forget
Harry Potter and the 'Sorceror's' Stone, instead of the Philosopher's Stone
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:38, Reply)
Let's never talk of
harry potter again
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:40, Reply)
I watched a bit of that on Saturday
Those kids were tiny.

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:28, Reply)
Pleasure.
I've been playing that a fair while now. Be sure to mess with all the settings and increase the speed occasionally.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:42, Reply)
Maniac Cop
Think it's 80's anyway. Actualy kinda enjoyable.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 12:59, Reply)
Sadly TopGun here as well
Though thinking about it in terms of film and tv I'm pretty much trapped in the 70's at the moment
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:15, Reply)
does scarface count? it's very much an eighties film
also FX: the art of illusion which is big dog's cock awful

predator 2 is a much better film than predator 1, so nerr
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:19, Reply)
FX was chunder
Brian Brown is not lead actor material.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:23, Reply)
Have you not SEEN Cocktail?
No?

Well done. Keep it that way.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:26, Reply)
I've avoided it for two reasons
One short, the other tall.

BB was good in Breaker Morant though.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:30, Reply)
When did you last watch Predator 2?
Because I thought it was better than one until I actually bought the DVD and rewatched it, and it's really gash.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:28, Reply)
^ this
Also, points for top use of the word "gash"
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:37, Reply)
i have it on vhs, so within the last coiuple of months
it has dated, but not as much as predator1
although predator 1 does have some truly excellent one-liners
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:48, Reply)
"Schtik Around"

"Oh yeah, strap this to your sore ass"
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:55, Reply)
"Me too, mine's as big as a house"

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:57, Reply)
I still prefer Predator V Alien.
Because you get two nasty mofos for the price of one and the heroine is a black woman who is an expert on artic exploration.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 13:52, Reply)
Yeah, she explores lorries and everything
If you edit it, this will not make sense.
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 14:04, Reply)
I don't need to edit anything for you to not make sense.

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 14:05, Reply)
Mission accomplished

(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 14:07, Reply)
