Manchester
On Wednesday, I'm flying over to the UK for work for 4 days and am staying an extra 2 days to do some sightseeing. I haven't been before, and I'm going to be in Manchester.
Where should I go? What should I do?
(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 19:05, 39 replies, latest was 16 years ago)
Canal Street.

(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 19:42, Reply)
What's there?
Or is it one of those places I should avoid?
(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 19:51, Reply)
The clue is in the name.

(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 19:57, Reply)
Aha....
...one of those to stay away from
(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 20:18, Reply)
That depends on your idea of fun.
I used to live in Manchester and went to all the bars and clubs there every weekend.
(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 20:20, Reply)
Canal Street is awesome

(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 21:28, Reply)
I second this suggestion

(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 21:48, Reply)
Just go back home,
manchester is shit.
(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 19:54, Reply)
This from a guy who lives in a town which is only famous for concrete cows.

(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 19:58, Reply)
I don't even know where you live even though you bang on about it all the time.

(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 20:13, Reply)
What's that supposed to mean?

(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 20:16, Reply)
It can't be as bad as my town
We have 3 sets of traffic lights, 2 stop signs and farms everywhere. I'm gonna feel like a hick in Manchester.
(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 20:19, Reply)
go see my mate tone
he's a right fucking laugh
(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 20:12, Reply)
Get the train to somewhere better as quick as you can. Manchester is shit.

(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 20:18, Reply)
Where would you recommend?

(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 20:20, Reply)
Don't listen to them.
Manchester is a great city. If you don't like cities then go somewhere else.
(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 20:21, Reply)
It's one of the bigger cities, right?
I live in farm country, our nearest big town is 55 miles away (which is where I work).

I'm looking forward to going and I'll probably be over 3-4 times a year. I recently got a promotion, and work closely with our UK counterparts.

Long are you prepared to spend travelling? Do you want culture? Massive drugs? Sex? Or all of these?

(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 20:22, Reply)
I'm working for 4 days,
then 2 days to just hang out.
No sex - I got a girlfriend, drugs....hmmm...I smoke sometimes. I would like to see some culture.

Great! I know that the guys I'm working with are going to take me out for some traditional British food.
And I promise not to be a typical American - I shall pronounce places correctly, won't wear baseball caps and elasticated pants, and I won't be obnoxious (unless I get drunk)
(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 20:43, Reply)
you should have
chicken Dansak, pilau rice and a plain naan
you just should, OK?
(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 22:29, Reply)
Fuck that
Lamb buna!
(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 23:16, Reply)
This all sounds too good!

(, Sun 25 Jul 2010, 1:02, Reply)
Indian food is delicious.
Just tell the waiters that you're not used to hot and spicy food and ask them what they would recommend.
(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 20:43, Reply)
I eat a lot of Mexican and Thai food,
so I think Indian food will be ok.
(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 20:44, Reply)
Then you're in for a treat.

(, Sat 24 Jul 2010, 20:45, Reply)
Try Omar Khan's in Bradford (30-40 minutes' drive or an hour on the train.)
Not only is it excellent, it won't rape your wallet either.
