If you missed this last week, then SLVA very kindly screencapped it for me

I can't remember things more than a few minutes ago
give us an example question.

Trouble is, they're always set by some social misfit with an unhealthy obsession for an obscure subject.
We once went to one where the fat, panting quizmaster had set a picture round of sci-fi film characters.
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 19:18, Reply)
that would be one I'd be OK at. Ours are all about rivers and old films and football
our specialist subjects mostly revolve around sci fi, english lit, computers and the happenings in fantasy worlds

I suppose if we ever found a quiz where the quizmaster was obsessed with American Political History 1880-1930 I'd do quite well.
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 19:25, Reply)
Come and do the pub quiz.
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 19:23, Reply)
What night, where, and what time does it finish?
Do you need a specialist on American Political History 1880-1930, or just someone who knows Jello Biafra's real name?
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 19:27, Reply)
I want as many B3tans as possible onboard.

A specific pub? Last orders isn't helpful because it misses the last train back to Chavford.
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 19:37, Reply)
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 19:38, Reply)
Last train back is 22.09.
A brave effort, but I'm not equal to the challenge.

I drive for a living so I tend to avoid driving when I'm off duty.
There are pet care issues which preclude me staying in York.
And I don't think La TD would appreciate driving me to York for a pub quiz.
If you can find something more central with an earlier finish I'm all ears.

Just the Fox is my local, and Wednesday quiz night is a tradition.
Pubs in the centre are shit for quizzes.

I wonder if there's a boozer in Leeds that does a quiz? Yes, there is, obviously, but I only know the Northern suburbs.
Maybe a central Leeds pub quiz. Easy for trains.
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 20:14, Reply)
I do think it would be marvellous to have a B3tan pub quiz team in full effect.
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 20:20, Reply)
But if we can make it happen somewhere in West/North Yorkshire count me in.
To revert to an earlier post - Jello Biafra's real name? Without looking it up?

Holiday in Cambodia was on 6 Music this morning and that set me up for the day. One of my top ten.
It helps that his middle name is my surname.

Until my dying day.
Or until something more exciting happens.
Whichever is the sooner...oh, wait...the cat has just crapped in it's litter tray.
Beat that!

Poor this particular cat has a fractured pelvis due to her failure to understand Newton's third law of motion when specifically applied to stationary cat v moving car.
Cut her some slack, eh?
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 21:18, Reply)
but as soon as she's been lovingly nursed back to health she's going in the bin.

Four cats, two dogs. We work to pay pet insurance and food and vet treatment bills. Still cheaper and less annoying than kids though.
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 21:32, Reply)
the vet offered to put it on dialysis. He mentioned that if the cat had had a more believable name he would have tried to claim it on health insurance as one of his kids.
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 21:38, Reply)
Hopefully our cats, Brittany, Wayne, Colleen and Babyspice (the oldest) will help us out on that front, if you see what I mean.

Watch out for Jedward - he bites.

I have another interview on tuesday with another bloke about a private job and OH MY GOODNESS, things are looking up !
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 20:23, Reply)
And good luck. Someone e-mailed me today saying the company their friend is at has a couple of jobs, so I'm hopeful that might lead to something.

All the unis have just started back, and I'm sitting teaching myself about engineering things. Damn brain and it's desire to learn.
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 20:23, Reply)
(if you've already been) what course would you choose?
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 20:34, Reply)
Either that or a degree in sound production. And yes, I've just graduated.
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 20:38, Reply)
I think I'd do modern languages or an English literature degree. I did physics.
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 20:46, Reply)
I'm reading about CFD just now, which is kind of physics-ish. Just what you need for a Thursday night.
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 20:48, Reply)
they always have really sweet graphics. Do you want to do stuff like this for aerospace engineering?
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 20:56, Reply)
It's close to what I did at uni, which involved making sweet looking models, but I had to teach myself CFD in 5th year for a project, and now looking at going for a job in it in aerospace and building and transport airflows and things.

is all this renewable energy malarky throwing up any opportunities?
(, Thu 23 Sep 2010, 21:14, Reply)
I know a few folk who went off to do Masters in environmental engineering or renewables last year; there's certainly plenty focus on it these days, most engineering companies have at least some focus on energy saving and environmental kindness.
