bananas are lovely
I have a whole bunch on my desk right now, just waiting to be deliciously enjoyed.

I'm with you on the cucumber though, it's a stupid flavour.

*points at supertaster*
Ha ha - cucumbers taste of nothing to me, except mild cucumbery water.

means you might be missing out on tasting other stuff though
"in 1931, scientists have identified an organic substance Phenylthiocarbamide - often simply called PTC - that either tastes bitter, or is completely tasteless depending on the genetic makeup of the individual."

Brussels sprouts are a case in point
I love them. But my dad insists they taste really bitter and unpleasant.

strangely I love brussels sprouts
it's really only cucumber of the green veg/fruit that disgust me.

CUCUMBER IS FAB.
That is all.

We're talking about eating it...

Are we?
Sorry! my mistake.

Hmm
Must be a different compound then. I'm trying to remember - are they called alkaloids, or flavinoids or something?

*calls for biochemist to help*

Edit - come to think of it, aubergines taste like sick to me. But maybe they're just like that anyway?

oooh I taste the bland cucumber water
not evilness. I'm upset now, I'm missing out.
(, Tue 28 Sep 2010, 13:58, Reply)
you're not
I can't eat a sandwich made with a knife that has touched cucumber, can't eat something that has had cucumber in it that has subsequently been removed.

Curiously though, I love pickled gherkins

maybe something has to be a certain amount of vileness before you'll eat it
maybe you don't like cucumber because it's not bitter and disgusting enough.
(, Tue 28 Sep 2010, 14:02, Reply)
But he thinks it is bitter and disgusting
It's just us normal people who find it bland and cucumbery
(, Tue 28 Sep 2010, 14:04, Reply)
it's not bitter as such
just really vile. Doesn't taste like anything else I can think of.
(, Tue 28 Sep 2010, 14:05, Reply)
But at least you can eat cucumber and enjoy it.
Apparently it causes most people to burp a lot. Can't say it has that effect on me.
