This is a question Street Life

'Hi guys!' exclaims JLC. 'I was once offered oral sex by a young man outside my flat, at 7 o'clock on a Monday morning. Tempted as I was, I decided against it and went to work instead'.

Tell us about the funniest/most appalling/most peculiar thing you've seen in the street.

Yes. It's important that we know her ethnicity, isn't it?

And her age.
And her gender. Not to mention her general state of health.

So many triggers, so much unchecked privilege...

Gender, age, and fitness are important.
So you know how hard the beat-down is going to be.

I'd wondered about the sex thing,
but decided that that'd be apparent as soon as a pronoun were used. The alternative would be to make the story unreadable. The point about her ethnicity doesn't behave in the same way.

FYI,
Simply using the word black to describe someone who happens to be black is not racist, it's accurate.

If her ethnicity is relevant to the story, then go for it.
I can't see how it is here.

Adjectives provide colour and ambiance to the story.
If you cut out everything that isn't strictly relevant to the story, you end up with this:

Person 1: 'What do you think life is all about?'

Person 2: 'In what sense?'

Person 1: 'Well, we're all on this planet, orbiting the sun, none of us really have any sense of purpose because our natural instincts have more or less gone. What is life about now, with all of this considered?'

Person 2: 'I honestly think, as long as you're happy and you don't harm or hurt anyone during the course of your life, then you've made the most of it and made of it the best you can.'

Person 1: 'NO! IT'S ABOUT JESUS!'

And this isn't as entertaining.

It was, but I later decided the strong Jamaican accent was pointless filler as it was only funny to me, and others I relayed the story to. I therefore deleted the reference to it.
Unfortunately, I left her ethnicity in.

I liked the story
but you should have done it all in patois.

That was the original plan.

"Using descriptive language to build a mental image of an encounter is racist."
- a stupid whining shitcunt.
