This is a question Conspiracy theory nutters

I keep getting collared by a bloke who says that the war in Afghanistan is a cover for our Illuminati Freemason Shapeshifting Lizard masters to corner the market in mind-bending drugs. "It's true," he says, "I heard it on TalkSport". Tell us your stories of encounters with tinfoil hatters.

Thanks to Davros' Granddad

Flat Earth Society
Think of the most insane conspiracy theory you can and you can guarantee that you will find someone who believes it. My favourite is the Flat Earth Society. As their name suggests, they believe that the earth is flat. The theory goes along the lines that there is a big government cover-up (not sure which Government) and that there is a big ice wall around the edge which is manned by guards who kill anyone who gets too close. Apparantly all pilots and NASA are in on it.

They have a forum which is full of messages of people who are incensed by the mentalness of the arguament and those who try to put a sensible arguament against the theory and are met with insane answers like 'but that's what they want you to think' etc.

My theory is that the society is actually run by scientists who sit there and chuckle at people's reactions to it all and offer more and more crazy arguaments, as well as a few mentalists who actually believe in it.

wait a second....
Is that a conspiracy theory about conspiracy theorists? thats a little mind boggling.

I saw the flat earth society a while back and was one of those incensed people who indeed was met with a reply of said insanity. Bunch of idiots!

I decided to have a little read of it
and fuck me these people are dumb cunts. Here's one typical question posted:

It seems to me that all the pictures of the Earth from space are 2 dimensions, its always seen on a computer screen or paper. It is all 2D
Maybe the reason is it is flat. Please brothers what do you think about this.

He also goes on about satellite orbits being faked and such tripe.

The Genius Answer:

The reason such alleged pictures of the world may appear as two dimensionl is not because the world is flat. The Earth is flat, but that is beside the point. The pictures are completely fake.

I also gave this forum a read...
It seems that everyone on there who actually believes this crap is happy to just state their opinions and theories without giving any proof.

Yet, whenever a sensible person comes along to question them and try to persuade the idiots that the earth is round, they are met with the same response - "Prove it!"

Then when it is proven by way of pictures etc., the response is "That's fake"

I might just join it to antagonise some people.

Dont waste your time
I along with hundreds of others have tried and tried to explain to these people the folly of their ways.

The constant reply is 'prove it' or 'lurk moar' meaning keep looking at the forum for proof of our theories...OF WHICH THERE IS NONE! It's a futile circle! My advice- dont get trapped in it

Flat
It's flat where I live and I don't fall off.

If the earth was round and I was on the bottom of the roundness I'd fall off. Even gravity couldn't make me stick.

Conclusion: The earth is flat.

I like your thinking
You'd fit right in there :)

Good point.
Explain, then, why you can see further away if you climb to a high place if the surface isn't curved.

I quite like the flat-earth society
just because they are trolls from waaaay back before the Internets.

English eccentrics, if you will.

Although after loose change and timecube there's always some odd net-nutters who are willing to take things far too seriously.

I love the Flat Earth Society
but the more I read their website, the more I am convinced it's all just a wind up.
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 20:59, closed)
I'm convinced of it
No-one in their right mind can seriously believe their theories, but then again, maybe they are not in their right mind. I like to imagine a bunch of physicists sitting in their lab competing over who can come up with the most bonkers arguament and then chuckling at the incredulity of people on the forum.

Forget the Flat-Earthers,
ever heard about the Hollow-Earthers? They believe the earth is hollow in the middle and the Nazis weren't defeated, they just hid in the hole in the north pole. There's a film coming out about it.

My absolute favourite conspiracy theory. Can't get much nuttier than that.

Says who
that's not a theory, it's real. I saw a mole with a little red armband and a swastika on it only last week.

Too many Robert Rankin novels.
His best is 'The Most Amazing Man Who Ever Lived'.

The Flat Earth Society
is a crude and poorly executed un-funny satire. Nothing more.
