ads on the site
anyone got thoughts?
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 0:59, archived)
if you absolutely have to
they should be text only, so they're not intrusive.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:00, archived)
well
check the FP
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:00, archived)
i see, haven't looked at the FP for a lil' while
could you put them below the other stuff?
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:02, archived)
you only get paid if people click
so if you're going to hide them, then you might as well not run them.

My reckoning is that 3rd column is a bit useless anyway, as the blog has the newsletter links each week.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:03, archived)
Just below the newsletter part
would be ok, and people would still see it since you have to scroll much further to see all the images.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:06, archived)
fair enough
they're not too bad. Just look a little odd right now, i guess i'll get used to it.

edit: below the newsletter would be great.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:07, archived)
or, even if they're not below....
centred on the column?
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:04, archived)
yeah
my dodgy CSS - I'll sort that out in a bit.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:06, archived)
hey, it's way better than mine
/happy with nice comfy html
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:08, archived)
Yes
Pop-ups would be a waste of time, but annoying to anyone without a blocker. But why not? If they keep b3ta going :D
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:01, archived)
my thoughts on pop-ups
should be clear...

(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:02, archived)
Well why not
As I said, if it keeps b3ta going makes you a healthy profit.. Go for it.

I bet you're ever so grateful for my tuppence worth :)
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:04, archived)
that's a PB
126...
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:07, archived)
They are only on the front page
so I'm not that arsed.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:00, archived)
well the plan is to have them in other places too
but not to put them on the board as such
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:01, archived)
I think it would look better
if the ad was below the newsletter thingy, but other then that its all good.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:04, archived)
Can they be centred
like the rest of the stuff in the column?
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:08, archived)
Not crazy about them
But I'd rather have b3ta with ads than no b3ta at all.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:02, archived)
seconded

(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:03, archived)
there's some discussion lower down
I think it should be an experiment, non-intrusive (the Google ones are good) and if it brings in some money without compromising look-and-feel then why not?

I presume you saw/ have heard about the 'Over' hitting BBC2 and ITV tonight?
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:03, archived)
yeah I heard about that
er... what can I say? telly nicks joke off website. it happens.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:09, archived)
as remarked below
(again) -edit: maybe it was said on FTL. I don't know. Blame the booze. :)

Frankly, if one of my images got pinched by HIGNFY, i'd be over the moon, download the torrent and show all my mates.
I understand the problem with pictures appearing on T-shirts, etc, and other people than the creator making money from them - but a five-second flash on the end of a TV program is flattery rather than larceny IMHO.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:16, archived)
Alsong as no one was
making money out of my work, I'd be happy as fuck to see it something of mine on Tv.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:19, archived)
this.
concisely: This.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:20, archived)
Make them fit the colour scheme.
If you put Jamster banner ads up, I shall never visit b3ta again.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:03, archived)
i've messed with the colours on the FP
they should be about right now.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:05, archived)
Yeah,
anything that doesnt have fucking sound is fine.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:05, archived)
shouldn't happen
google doesn't run that stuff
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:07, archived)
why not
i even clicked them all earlier to make you some cash

Actually how is the server fund etc these days? You running behind?
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:11, archived)
i just clicked them all
too, for exactally the same reason.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:11, archived)
can I ask you not to do this?
it's very nice of you. But google monitor IPs on the clicks, and boot websites off the the system for suspicious click patterns.

So PLEASE CLICK if you see an ad that you think looks interesting - but don't click to try and help me, as that could go very wrong for us.

And I'm very keen on staying on adsense as it's clearly the best ad system available. (It pays some money, and the ads aint nasty pop-ups with audio)

Cheers.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:14, archived)
ok, didn't realise
sorry.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:16, archived)
no worries
i'm happy that you're trying to help
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:17, archived)
oops
sorry...i'll be honest that i rarely click any ads..actually never, so i'll select a random one every so often and click it, no more though

Edit: if that probably...so yes i'll click ads that may interest me
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:21, archived)
exactly
that's what I want.

The odd thing for me is that setting this stuff up, I've seen several ads this evening that actually looking interesting, but it's against the T&Cs for me to click!

I've been having to do weird things with right click and cut and paste to stay legal.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:25, archived)
all i've seen so far is kitten ads
you looking for a new pet then?
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:29, archived)
Looks fine to me,
saw it before when it was a great big white box nad thought 'urrgh'

but now its grey, looks fine :)
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:11, archived)
yeah
it had to be grey - white looked very wrong
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:12, archived)
i'm utterly appalled.
in every conceivable manner.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:21, archived)
huzzah!

(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:23, archived)
only because
I won't have you
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:24, archived)
oi you two
back where you belong!
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:25, archived)
we are where we belong
in bed, together.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:26, archived)
your breasts are suffocating me.

(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:29, archived)
you couldn't be happier

(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:31, archived)
you're quite right.

(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:35, archived)
hmmm
dirty pillows
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:32, archived)
Would I notice them.....?
Can we demand that advertisers throw open their creative process to the board...? Can we have an ad compo whereby advertisers have to ignore their entire marketing department and use a b3tans image to shift their product...?

Otherwise... I ejaculate on this idea.... and I have some nasty venereal discharge happening here.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:35, archived)
too much information!
*shudders*
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 1:47, archived)
hmm. yeah why don't you make them
slightly less visible (ie. down further under the newsletter etc) on the front page... it looks rather ugly right there on the right.

Probably another thing to improve it could be to make the coloumn a bit wider - the same width as the newsletter box. If that's possible.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 3:31, archived)
I cant see them
because Firefox's adblock has removed the iframe for me.
(, Sat 16 Apr 2005, 7:24, archived)
