This is an edit: Obviously
It shocks me how fast B3ta is to pick up on mistakes...

I am not even close to being smart enough to have a real opinion on the Israel/Palestine conflict.

but my uninformed feeling is that anti-semitism is a real problem, but wanting Palestinians to have a country of their own is not the same as being anti-jewish.

And I guess my simplicity is going to get me even more shit now, isn't it?

No thanks.

Near the top!
Personally, I think all forms of racism are just fucking stupid in the first place, let alone just anti-Semitism.
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:46, archived)
That's exactly what the darkies think too.

Except anti-Armenianism.
They just will not shut UP about the genocide.

I've decided to stop being racist
racism is a crime, and crime is for black people.
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:49, archived)
thank god you put it near the top, this has changed my entire world view

The only practical approach is to insult everyone equally
except the French, the cunts

(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:10, archived)
And it's a very complex issue.

(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:22, archived)
Which side are you on?
This is very important, think carefully about your answer.
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:11, archived)
Yes please.

(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:11, archived)
alright scarpe

(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:11, archived)
Don't worry folks, I'm here.
What seems to be the problem? No doubt I can solve it. In a sexy, sexy way.
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:13, archived)
To your edit:
I've no idea what you're on about, but there is no one Palestinian 'country'.
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:18, archived)
God you're sexy.

(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:19, archived)
He's got me reading the history of Palestine right now,
and I'm having trouble enough even working out what a "Palestinian" is supposed to be.
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:34, archived)
wasn't morph a palestinian?

(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:39, archived)

Or if you were feeling ill and a Jew made you eggy cup?
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:28, archived)
I'd reject it and ask if the nearest mossie would like to give me a doughnut/eggy cup

(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:29, archived)

that's crazy talk.

Two groups of self-confessedly incompatible religious zealouts
want exclusive rights to the same piece of land. The only possible options are:
a) kill them both
b) time-share
c) pack it in, the pair of you, or I'll knock your heads together so help me I will, just you wait till your Dad gets home.

Harry Hill would say there's only one way to sort it out.

They've tried that for a while though
and it's got a bit boring.

What they really need is a few Honda Accords to put the fear of god into the lot of them.

There's a good short history of israel here
www.mideastweb.org/briefhistory.htm

with lots of links in it

The jewish claim to israel is probably akin to Italians claiming England because it used to be part of the Roman Empire
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:40, archived)
Not really,
it's more like the Scots claiming Scotland.
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:43, archived)
I have a friend
who can enumerate and explain the evidence proving the Welsh are the lost tribe of Israel. It's almost touching.
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:50, archived)
There's a charming Irish folk story
about how the Irish language is an attempted reconstruction of Humanity's original language from before the Tower of Babel incident, by an Irish builder who had worked on the project.
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:55, archived)
Rastafarians claim the same
I reckon they should fight it out.
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:58, archived)
Nobody lived in scotland before the Scots
Israel was populated by non-jews before the first israeli tribes conquered it
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:50, archived)
Picts and Britons lived there before the Scots.
Canaanites lived in Israel before the Israelites, fair enough, but just like Picts, they no longer exist as a people, so we can hardly put them back. The Arabs, on the other hand, only have a claim on the region after invading it in the 7th century.
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:53, archived)
One of the problems of history is defining a people by the name of it's rulers
A group of people and their descendants are known by different names throughout history according to the name of their rulers of the time
also many different peoples transform into new peoples through migration, invasion, and inter-marriage
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 15:10, archived)
What the fuck has that got to do with it?
You're just trying to obfuscate the issue now in a vain attempt to not look stupid.
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 15:14, archived)
Who put the ram In the rama lama ding dong?

(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:55, archived)
Yes they did
the Scots came over from Ireland. Places like Skara Brae are pre-Celtic.

And the Arabs were fairly late on the scene in Israel.
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:56, archived)
Not really
unless the Romans had built their most sacred religious temple in Dorking.
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:43, archived)
Israel means 'promised land'.
What with all the bombings and so-forth, they've got really, really low standards, don't you think?
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:47, archived)
My mum used to say "and that's not a threat, it's a promise"
when she was telling me off.

... and was then granted to Italy by a UN resolution in the 40s.
Italy having been overrun with Yugoslavians, and Italians living in a large diaspora over much of Europe, with several hundred thousand remaining in England after the fall of the Empire.

An excellent analogy, and one I hope to see Peter Snow using on Newsnight soon.
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:48, archived)
Actually,
you *may* have an analogy if it were the Italians claiming Romania.
(, Sat 16 May 2009, 14:49, archived)
simply mentioning the israel-palestine conflict is effectively racism
you horrible racist
