He and Gervais have an extremely lazy schtick, which is to whip an audience of middle-class liberals into a howling frenzy
by picking on the easiest, least risky targets possible: Tory voters, Daily Mail readers, bankers, blah blah blah - but they also have the playground bully's instinct for being really fucking nasty. The pair of them need binning.

Stuart Lee has a schtick too, but at least he occasionally challenges his audience and makes them think about their own prejudices, rather than just pandering to them.

Many years back, I read a thing he wrote about how to treat addicts.
I couldn't stand him then either, but I was genuinely interested in his take on it since he'd had well-documented addiction issues.

It was indeed enlightening to read how he tackled them, but what was also striking was that his relentless narcissism meant he was totally unable to conceive of how anyone else's life, personality and circumstances could possibly differ from his. In short, his solution to addiction problems was: be me, and do what I did.
