Just found out brother in law has a brain tumour
I’m very fond of him, he’s a lovely fella and great husband to my sister and brilliant dad to my nephews. Good news is it’s a cat. 1 so plenty of room for optimism but his father died a slow , agonising death from a brain tumour not long ago.

My partner is a therapy radiographer so we are pretty clued up about the process, it’s just a very very rough time for them all.

ah shit
sorry to hear that
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 10:01, archived)
I don't know a huge amount yet
but from the little I do know it's one of the less bad diagnoses to have - we can hope that it's treatable, maybe even with just radiotherapy.
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 10:43, archived)
Sorry mate

(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 10:02, archived)
Fingers crossed it's treatable
and atm we have no reason to think it won't be so holding off the worst of worries.
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 10:44, archived)
In the words of Queef not to one up.
My sisters husband of 30 years old had stomach trouble for years eventually found he had bowel cancer and died within 3 weeks of diagnosis. They had been married 2 years with a 2 year old girl.

These things are really really shit. But they happen. All you can do is hope for the best.

Thoughts are with you and yours mate.
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 11:09, archived)
I'm sorry.

(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 11:19, archived)
Yeah, we're not daft - there's a chance that things are worse than we think
but right now we've got reasonable grounds to hope he'll have a shit time over the next few months but make a recovery. Hopefully, a full one but there's nothing at the moment to say he won't be there for his kids as they grow up.
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 15:10, archived)
same thing happened to an old boss of mine
complained for years to his doctor, got told it was indigestion/gastroenteritis and fobbed off with pills. pain eventually got so bad that he took himself to hospital. inoperable stomach cancer, dead within a fortnight.
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 15:53, archived)
Ech, that's rough. Very sorry to hear it.

(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 10:13, archived)
If what I know so far is true
then as a type 1 tumour there it'll be treatable.
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 10:45, archived)
Well fingers crossed for that, m8.

(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 11:47, archived)
sorry man
are these things hereditary? not to one up you (well, one down you) here but my best pal is having to have an open liver drain around his neck, and his gallbladder isn't working properly so he can't start chemo on his terminal liver, lung and lymph node cancer. we both turn 50 today :(((
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 10:14, archived)
at least he has no kids I suppose

(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 10:15, archived)
Fucking hell, that's rough.

(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 10:41, archived)
and he's in Aus so I can't even visit

(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 10:42, archived)
He's probably better off there than here given the state of the NHS, if that's any consolation.

(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 10:49, archived)
that's what he said when I asked if he was coming back after diagnosis
he's not going anywhere now anyway
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 11:21, archived)
Oh bums.
Well I hope you manage to have some fun today despite the shitty news.
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 10:48, archived)
I'll certainly have fun
but with the odd twinge of premature survivor guilt

I think that was on Donald Glover's list of potential stage names for his rap career before he settled on 'Childish Gambino.'

(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 16:06, archived)
Well this sounds pretty hollow
But I hope there will be some happiness on your birthday today despite the circumstances. I'm so sorry.
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 11:18, archived)
thanks. bit of a bittersweet day tbh
I'm having an amazing holiday but keep having moments of 'ah fuck'.
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 11:29, archived)
I know exactly how that feels
Huge hug
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 11:47, archived)

(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 13:58, archived)
That's shit news
Still hope, though
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 10:37, archived)
It's bad news and it'll be awful for them
but it's not unreasonable to be optimistic that he'll get through it.
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 10:46, archived)
Hope all goes well dude

(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 11:04, archived)
I'm really sorry to hear that my dear
I hope the outcome is positive and that he gets well
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 11:16, archived)
damn that's rough
sorry to hear it m8
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 11:34, archived)
Just had a big long chat with brother-in-law (I'm very fond of the fella)
from everything we know we've every reason to hope for a positive outcome, but it's likely to involve brain surgery and a few months of 'orrible treatment with steroids. It's going to be unpleasant but we've every reason to be positive that the shit he and the family go through over the coming months will result in him making a full recovery. There's definitely risks, but they are low so it's a case of focusing on the next step in the process, bit-at-a-time.
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 11:54, archived)
hopefully the long term outcome is that he has a cool scar and a horrible anecdote

(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 11:56, archived)
Indeed
he's a bit worried that he'll look like Pinhead from Hellraiser for a bit and traumatise his boys but I think at least one of them would find it cool AF.
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 15:08, archived)
Steroid treatment isn't pleasant but it's effective
Hope all goes well
(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 12:42, archived)
Do the steroids mean he'll have a really muscular head afterwards?

(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 16:04, archived)

chat wank
(, Sun 1 Oct 2023, 10:24, archived)
Sorry for your trouble

(, Sat 30 Sep 2023, 12:25, archived)
