If I may TJ a moment, does anyone know anything about nerves? I have lost feeling in a large portion of my finger - do I need to worry?

Not sure how that stuff works, easily spotted indicators for the non-doc being "it could be bad when it blackens and falls off". On other hand, no doubt any place you could get that checked today will be flooded with serious stuff from new years. I wouldn't take the risk and leave it.

It's the left hand, after all, what's the worst that could happen.

Most minor nerve damage normally takes up to two months to rectify itself.
Anything that lasts for longer is a potentially permanent condition.
