This one I did www.b3tards.com/u/037e58b9e054b3c8dd7b/walle2_meat.jpg is 1000 pixels wide but only 80k.
Learn to use the compression tools in Photoshop or whatever package you use, or as I said, just make a thumbnail with link to bigger.
