NHS cutbacks are worse than I thought, they're using kittens now ?!?
which means it'll probably die. we used to get racing pigeons in our yard from time to time. if they were injured or stressed, they rarely survived.

If it's in shock or breathing quickly
Put it in a covered box for a while. The darkness will calm it down a bit. Then you can try leaving it alone with bird food and water. Otherwise, call the RSPCA (are you in the UK?) and they'll tell you to take it to a local vet on the RSPCA's behalf/free of charge.

well, my friend's a vet and blah blah blah
hope your pidge/dove gets better. We have a wood pigeon who visits here quite often (yes, I know it's an agricultural pest but the cats have killed everything else round here), and he seems to like the corn-type bird feed the most :)
With dove you need to make sure it doesn't dry out during cooking
I like to stick a lime in its cavity and then cover it with some kind of fat - either bacon, butter or duck fat if you have it. Pull the skin away from the meat around the breasts and stick some fat underneath.
It really is only a minute or two between perfect and dry as shit, so keep an eye on it. Don't go higher than 160C.
