# damn you!
i'm so hungry and i've not eaten today yet!!

*drools uncontrolably*

# quick question
why is it that we can make fun of 5000 dead people (including our own people) but we cant mention the ethnic MAJORITY problem ?
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:02, archived)
# because they are dead and can't complain about it
seriously though, the issue of race and humour is a very thin line to tread, it is far too easy to become unfunny and racist, so it's best left alone
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:05, archived)
# yeah
however i served in the first gulf war and I enjoyed killing the little bastards - fortunately they weren't white so now i'm the stench that comes out of satans arsehole - strange that, at the time i was a national hero hmmmmmmm

# how can you say that you ENJOYED killing people??
the first gulf war was justified, and was ended at the proper time, but holding a grudge against a people who, for the most part, did what they did out of fear of their leader, or out of brainwashing is not a good thing
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:14, archived)
# Heros tend to save lives
not enjoy taking them.
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:17, archived)
# we did
the kuwait women - who were butchered and nail to front doors as a warning to other women - I think you'll be able to relate to that being a women!
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:22, archived)
# Yes indeed
but wasn't the road to Iraq somewhat overkill?
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:24, archived)
# funny you should say that
Me and my section actually watched the slaughter on the road to Bashra..And it wasn't pretty, however the english didnt get involved, it was the yanks who did the killing there. But war is simple - kill them before they kill you.
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:27, archived)
# I thought it more a case of
Establishing your objective by the quickest and least bloodiest route possible. If you can defeat an army without a single bullet being fired isn't that better than blowing up everybody and counting the casualties afterwards?
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:31, archived)
# no
war takes over when politics fails. You dont win a war by skirting around your enemy. You face them head on and move through them.
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:46, archived)
# Then you are nothing but pawns
your life isn't in your hands anymore it belongs to the generals and the politicians (because even politicians like to play wargames look at Bush & Blair).
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:47, archived)
# And?
I know nobody will probably read this as I am skipping back through the archives but never mind.

Of course soldiers are pawns. If you join the army you accept that you have to do what is commanded by the generals and, ultimately, the politicians. If that is something you find greatly distasteful then you shouldn't be in the army (I presume you are not anyway.)

In a war, the last thing any army needs is to have hordes of soldiers standing around pontificating while the enemy blows them up.

# Just a quick point...
I think it's important that it be known that squaddies think with their weapon.
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:46, archived)
# Haha
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:48, archived)
# you're missing the point
a hero's main priority would be to save lives,
yet you said that you enjoyed the act of killing people, which is quite unheroic no matter who it is.
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:27, archived)
# wake up
I didnt ask to be called a hero - you the nation gave us that name - from your nice cosy arm chairs
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:28, archived)
# but you
-enjoyed- killing people?

thats nice.

# he's not really answering the point he said is he...
let him stew, he obviously has unresolved issues

# An ex-serviceman troll with a chip on his shoulder
Mmmmm... probably not a good idea to feed this one.

# and
I enjoyed my job - so what - so do millions of other soldiers - who are trained to kill and can't wait to do it.
At 500 yards its not very personal, see a dark shape, pull the trigger and watch it fall - hand to hand is a different matter - you hear them exhail their last breath.
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:33, archived)
# whatever
have a nice life.
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:35, archived)
# Being trained to kill is one thing
knowing that killing is the ultimately the last thing you should do and should try to defeat your enemy by other methods first is another thing entirely. Knowing when not to kill is more important at the end of the day.

But I cannot put myself in your boots, you must have had a rough time of it in the Gulf and you will obviously be reacting upon a survival instinct rather than some moral code of ethics - but to actually enjoy killing! you really need to see your Army Shrink asap before you carry that through to civilian life.
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:37, archived)
# ok
maybe saying "enjoyed killing people" wasnt the right thing to say. But when you live, eat and sleep with your mates for 10 years and then they get killed you do tend to get a little pissed off - no what I mean?
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:38, archived)
# I can empathise with you
but don't let your emotions take over from logic you are a trained solider a solider's duty is to save lives and defend the innocent. You're not a judge/juror/executioner you're trained to defeat your enemy by any means available and that doesn't always mean killing.
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:44, archived)
# maiden
you are a beautifull person and obviously british. But my original point was why can we laugh at the world trade center being ravaged by terrorists and displayed as a pile of hamburgers - which signifies dead meat - but we can't mention the fact that our country is slowly being over run by other cultures?
The gulf war is long gone and I now have 2 small children - but i want my children to brought up in an english society with english cultures. Is that too much to ask?
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:52, archived)
# Yes I understand your principle
and while I don't fully agree with the idea we're are being overrun I do think we do have a immigration problem. However why we can laugh at one thing and not another that's b3ta all over, one day they will laugh at immigration issues the next they will rage about it. Don't take it too personally I think the key to b3ta is everything is up for lampooning as long as you're ironic about it - Benard Manning is a fat bastard that doesn't mean I hate all fat people are think they are bastards, I just think Beanrd Manning is a fat bastard ;)
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:58, archived)
# yes
but fat bastards just ask for it :-)
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 12:00, archived)
# See that's ironic - haha
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 12:10, archived)
# But is it realy?
Sure the culture changes, but its important to remember that that drive comes from within, as well as without. When foreign cultures begin to establish themselves in Britian it is rare that they do not become slightly Britified in the process, its not a matter of over-running a culture but promoting change. While I understand that me screaming 'But it enriches the culture' is not going to convince you, it being an argument presented with no evidence, I think past experience shows this to be the case. Meanwhile I have seen no evidence for cultural change being forced on Britain, that just doesn't happen. The culture is made up by the people within it, and if you want to maintain certain factors of it there is nothing stopping you.
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 12:05, archived)
# one last thing
those who have seen the face of war never forget it, and in the quite of the night still hear the screams.
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:54, archived)
# just to reitterate
maiden - i'm the bad fucka for killing iraqis - you wanted to fly a bottle of heinz tomato sauce into the world trade center - am I missing something here !!!!

you're either trolling or you really are a moron.

# Ethnic Majority Problem?
the fact that you have capitalised MAJORITY is somewhat riske to begin with. I don't think people here at b3ta are actually taking the piss out of the poor people who lost their lives (if they are they are sick bastards) but it's more the fact that the World Trade Centre Twin Towers has become an iconic symbol of a US controlled World Police State.

'nuff said - get fluffy
(, Sun 13 Mar 2005, 11:06, archived)
# because if you can't laugh when reflecting on what's happened
you'll end up crying for the rest of your life.

# Because
Although it was a tragic event etc. you can't be bitter about those sorts of things. Its what breeds hate continuing the cycle of violence.

Now thats not very patriotic.
