I took it upon myself to keep a running tally of songs mentioned during last weeks' song flashback QOTW. I then took the most mentioned songs and collected them into 2 CDs to burn for my travelling pleasure. (I know, no iPod... I'm *so* 20th century.) If anyone would like, I can make a torrent of them so others may burn them or load them onto a portable digital music player. I would just need a webpage to upload the torrent to. Anyone game?

as soon as i know about it, i'm legging it to the nearest catholic churchful of mourners and bellowing "WHERE'S YOUR GOD NOW" down the aisle.

Some is decent, but there are some good and even great tunes included. There's a lot of 80s. The most mentioned tune was Creep by Radiohead.

you seem to like (the) Eels, so that alone makes you great. Keane aren't bad,
they just got too popular and now it's a bad thing to like them.

I dont dislike Keane, they just seem a bit bland to me, so I cant bring myself to listen to the album.
I would list what I like here but I know SSG would mock it immediately, no matter what it was.

have musical talent, they just (probably not intentionally) went down the path of trying to appeal to lots of people with melodic piano-pop.
It's not that their stuff is bland, it's just more... well.. "Easy listening". Which probably isn't the best.

Well, who cares, new Eels album this month and tour month after that.
Oooh yeah.
And Neil Hannon is apparently on the Hitchhikers Guide soundtrack, which is awesome.

The main reason I like Beck is that he seems to be a fellow mentalist, like myself. His music is just, well, mad.

My favourite album, and I'll happily admit this because I'm drunk, is "The Songs of Distant Earth".
It's the only album which has ever sounded like its been deeply inspired by sci-fi novels and the great unimaginable Universe. Which is a good thing.

Although most Oldfield fans I know say it's new age crap (Rik hates it too I think). Nah I thought the guitar on it was amazing and went well with the synthy stuff. I loved the Voyager album as well. He has some excellent Celtic interpretations. Anyway that's my guff on that. I still say you can't beat his old albums though :D

There are a few things he did which do sound quite hippy-ish, but he has been rather experimental in his time.

Amarok is enough to make me jizz hehe. That's a hell of an album. I've sat down many a time trying to work out some of the guitar parts. It's too fecking hard man. That album is incredible. One of the best around in my opinion. Then I could go on about Ommadawn but I digress hehe ;)

I'm not saying it's spectacular. It is what it is. No rhyme or reason, just based on responses to the QOTW. Only editing I did was based on availibilities of mp3s, and censoring absolute shite I wouldn't want on my stereo. (i.e. Britney Spears' Toxic and Kylie Minogue)
