please note, i'm not a star trek anorak
However, i have seen this movie many times It's Star trek IV - the Journey Home Kirk and the enterprise crew nicked the klingon ship and went back in time in it, to get a whale, then they brought it back to the 24th century and dumped it in the ocean.
